David Michael Matney (born July 4, 1995), professionally known as Disdazie, is an American musical artist. He is known for producing melodic rap and R&B music and has been active professionally since 2023. His work incorporates elements of singing and rap across multiple contemporary genres.[1]
Early life and education
Matney was born in Washington, D.C. He attended Centennial High School and later graduated from The University of Texas at Dallas, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies. He is largely self-taught in music and the arts.
Career
Matney began pursuing music professionally in his late twenties. He signed with Entourage Agency for Music, marking the start of his formal music career. One of his early milestones was achieving his first 1,000 streams with the song “Spaceship”, featuring JD. His music style blends melodic rap and R&B, with an emphasis on lyrical delivery and versatility. He has collaborated with artists including JD, Rhett Hayes, and Kidwasi.[2]
Several of his songs have been included in the television series Knee Deep, created by Honey Banks. At the time of writing, the series has not yet been released.[3]

Personal life
Matney comes from a family with historical ties to American music and journalism. His great-grandfather Clarence Williams was a jazz composer active in Harlem and New Orleans whose work continues to be studied academically. His grandmother, Irene Williams, was a jazz singer in the mid-20th century, and his grandfather, William Clarence Matney, was among the first African American journalists to appear on ABC television and later covered major civil rights–era events, including the Detroit race riots.
Matney has stated that his Christian faith has been an important influence in his life, and he has expressed support for faith-based campus ministries at the University of Texas at Dallas. Outside of music, his interests include basketball, video games, and sports.
