Devvrat Mahesh Rekhe, popularly known as Vedamurti Mahesh Rekhe, is an Indian Vedic scholar from Maharashtra. He gained national recognition in 2025 after successfully performing the highly complex Dand Kram Parayan of the Shukla Yajurveda, a rare Vedic recital reportedly performed after nearly 200 years.[1] His achievement earned praise from India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who commended him as one of the most promising young Vedic scholars of the new generation.[2]

Early Life and Education

Devvrat Mahesh Rekhe was born in a traditional Brahmin family in Ahilyanagar district, Maharashtra. His father, Mahesh Chandrakant Rekhe, a respected Vedic scholar, was his first teacher and guided him through foundational Vedic training.

Devvrat began reciting Vedic mantras at the age of five, demonstrating exceptional memory, discipline, and spiritual inclination. He later pursued higher Vedic studies at Vallabharam Shaligram Samveda Vidyalaya, Ramghat, Kashi, where he specialized in the Shukla Yajurveda.

Career

Devvrat’s career as a Vedic scholar began early, marked by rigorous scriptural study, chanting, and adherence to classical Vedic traditions.[3] Over the years, he mastered complex Vedic recitations, particularly within the Shukla Yajurveda.[4]

Through participation in Vedic ceremonies, spiritual programs, and recitation gatherings, he earned recognition as a young Vedamurti, respected for his discipline, lifestyle, and dedication to Vedic heritage.[5]

Notable Works

Devvrat’s most significant accomplishment is the successful completion of the Dand Kram Parayan of the Shukla Yajurveda. Between 2 October and 30 November 2025, he delivered daily recitations of approximately 2,000 Vedic mantras for 50 consecutive days at Vallabharam Shaligram Samveda Vidyalaya in Kashi, from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM.[6]

The last known completion of this rare Vedic ritual was attributed to Vedamurti Narayan Shastri Dev of Nashik, nearly two centuries ago, making Devvrat’s feat historically important for Vedic tradition.[7]

Achievements and Recognition

Devvrat’s revival of this centuries-old practice brought him widespread acclaim from Vedic scholars and cultural institutions across India. His achievement was acknowledged by:

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who congratulated him publicly on X
  • Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who praised his dedication and discipline

His work in preserving and revitalizing ancient Vedic traditions has positioned him among the most promising emerging Vedic scholars in modern India.[8]
