Devi Chitralekha (born January 19, 1997) is an Indian spiritual leader, preacher, katha vachak, and motivational speaker known for her engaging storytelling and devotional discourses on Hindu scriptures, especially the Bhagavata Purana. With a significant following in India and internationally, she is recognized for her devotion and the spiritual insights she provides through her kathas. Devi Chitralekha is also known for promoting social welfare and encouraging a life based on spiritual and ethical values.[1]
Early life
Devi Chitralekha was born on January 19, 1997, into a brahmin family in Khambi village, Palwal District, Haryana, India. Her parents are Tikaram Sharma and Chameli Devi. From a young age, she exhibited a deep spiritual inclination. At four, she received initiation into the Gaudiya Vaishnavism tradition from the Bengali saint Shri Shri Girdhari Baba.
At six years old, she captured the audience during a discourse by Ramesh Baba in Barsana where she spoke for nearly thirty minutes, marking the beginning of her career.
Career
Devi Chitralekha Ji conducted her first seven-day Shri Bhagwat Katha at Tapo Van near Vrindavan. Under the guidance of her guru, she successfully delivered the Katha, attracting large audiences and establishing herself as a prominent Bhagwat preacher.[2]
Devi Chitralekha’s teachings are based on the Bhagavata Purana, and she often narrates stories related to the life of Lord Krishna. Her kathas aim to inspire devotion, promote ethical living, and encourage individuals to seek inner peace through spiritual practice. Her stories blend traditional narration with contemporary messages. Her discourses emphasize values such as compassion, humility, and devotion, and she often discusses the importance of living a balanced life that incorporates spirituality into daily routines.[3]
Various religious television channels have broadcast Devi Chitralekha's teachings, and she has given lectures both domestically in India and abroad in places like the United States, the United Kingdom, and South Africa.[4]
Philanthropy
In addition to her spiritual work, Devi Chitralekha is dedicated to animal welfare. In 2013, she founded the Gau Seva Dham Hospital in Palwal, Haryana, which provides care for abandoned and injured cows. She also established the World Sankirtan Tour Trust in 2008 to promote Hindu culture and disseminate spiritual teachings.[5]
She is involved in several social initiatives aimed at uplifting underserved communities. She has organized events that provide food, clothing, and other essentials to those in need. Through her organization, she works on various charitable activities, including supporting education for underprivileged children and contributing to health services in rural areas.[6]
