Derin Yaya (born 12 September 1997, İstanbul), is a Turkish professional basketball player for Kayseri Basketbol.[1]
Early Years
Derin, who's mother is a former basketball player [2], was introduced to basketball when she was only 6 years old.[2] Derin Yaya, who joined the TED Kolej basketball team in the 3rd grade of primary school, went to her first tournament the next year.[3] While playing in all age groups under the TED Ankara Kolejliler uniform, she won the youth local league titles in Ankara [3] and appeared in the Turkish Championships every year. [3] After her youth career, she had the chance to play in the senior team with the TED Ankara Kolejliler uniform.[3]
Professional Career
TED Ankara Kolejliler
She started to play in the TED Ankara Kolejliler senior team in the 2013-2014 season [4] and she played in 16 games in the first season of his professional career. Derin played 23 games in TKB2L in the 2014-2015 season [4] , averaging 11.3 points, 5.4 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game. In the 2015-2016 season, playing in 23 games in TKBL with the TED Ankara Kolejliler,[5] with her averages of 11.7 points, 4.3 rebounds, 4.2 assists, 1.0 steals. In the 2016-2017 season, which is the last season of her with TED Ankara Kolejliler SK|TED Ankara Kolejliler, she played 42 games in the TKBL and TKBL Federation Cup, [6] averaging 13.8 points, 4.9 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 1.7 steals per game.
Cankaya Universitesi
Derin Yaya signed a contract with another Ankara team, Cankaya Universitesi at the beginning of the 2017-2018 season. [7] In her first season here, Derin played in 38 games [8] and averaged 12.9 points, 5 rebounds, 5.2 assists and 1.21 steals. In the 2018-2019 season, Derin Yaya, who averaged 15.6 points, 6.9 rebounds, 5.4 assists and 1.5 steals in 30 games in TKBL,[9].became the champion with Cankaya Universitesi in TKBL and promoted to KBSL. In the 2019-2020 season, which was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic|Covid19 pandemic, she finished the season with 6.1 points, 3.9 rebounds and 4.4 assists in 18 games in the Women's Basketball Super League.[11].
Hatay Buyuksehir Belediyespor
At the beginning of the 2020-2021 season, she signed a contract with Hatayspor (women's basketball)|Hatay Buyuksehir Belediyespor, one of the Women's Basketball Super League teams. [12]. Derin Yaya, who played 26 games here, [13]. played an important role in promoting her team to the play-offs with 7.3 points, 3.2 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game. Also she played 3 games in EuroCup Women with 2 points, 1.3 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game. [14].
Bellona Kayseri Basketbol
Derin Yaya signed an agreement with Kayseri Basketbol|Bellona Kayseri Basketbol for the 2021-2022 season.[15]
