Denise Cumella (born 1 October 1979) is an Italian entrepreneur, author, and keynote speaker. She is the founder and CEO of The Boss Books, Libri d'Impresa, and One Hour Marketing. She is also a TED X Speaker and a member of the governing board of EBBF, a global learning community comprising business executives from over 60 countries[1]. Cumella is the author of two best-selling books that are now available in English, Italian and Spanish.[2]

Cumella is best known for developing the extremely popular BookCamp Method, which aims to assist entrepreneurs and professionals in turning their ideas into books, and their books into effective marketing tools. Cumella and her team have provided direction and support to over 400 worldwide authors as of 2022.[3]

Cumella has over two decades of experience in marketing and creating high-value content for a variety of companies. With her agency, One Hour Marketing, Cumella has worked for Lush Cosmetics, Bottega Verde, Yves Rocher, and Riso Scotti and helped them substantially to gain market traction. She also received the Le Fonti Award for running the most innovative editorial marketing company.[4]

Early life and education

Cumella was born on 10 January 1979 in Caltanissetta, Sicily. After graduating from Liceo Classico Ruggero Settimo with distinction, in 1998 Cumella moved to Milan and enrolled in Accademia di Comunicazione. She earned her bachelor’s from this institute in Marketing and Communication and then did a course in Retail Marketing at SDA Bocconi.

Career

Cumella, after graduating from Accademia di Comunicazione in 2001 joined Hopscotch Europe where she worked for over a year handling online communications.[5]

In 2003, Cumella joined Lush, a Handmade Cosmetics company based in Canada as a press office manager, and was soon involved in the brand's management. In 2007 she became a corporate communications manager and began working as a member of a special team with Mark Constantine, founder of Lush, to define the company’s worldwide strategy. During her tenure of over two years with this firm, Cumella recruited, trained, and coached the employees in the communication department. She also played an integral role in organizing events in Madrid, Paris, Geneva, and Bristol.[6]

In 2013 after her exit from Lush, Cumella joined Yves Rocher as a marketing manager. During her time there, Cumella managed a team of 7 people and worked on the marketing strategies for the Italian branch of the international company.[7]

In 2014, Cumella started her entrepreneurial journey by establishing One Hour Marketing, an Advertising Company, operating in Italy, headquartered in Milan. Since its inception, Cumella has landed a number of high-profile clients such as Lush Cosmetics, Bottega Verde, Riso Scotti, Venchi, and Yves Rocher, and helped them gain more traction.

In 2017, Cumella founded another company - Libri d'Impresa, which supports entrepreneurs in becoming authors. More recently, Cumella also founded The Boss Books which publishes business books in English. Cumella gained recognition for formulating the BookCamp Method - which helps people turn their ideas into non-fiction books and those books into powerful marketing tools.

Apart from that, Cumella is also a popular keynote speaker and has spoken at a number of high-profile events at the Italian Parliament and TED Talks.

Personal life

Cumella has two children. She is also a dedicated volunteer and is often seen participating in events for social causes. Cumella is fluent in Italian, English, and Spanish.
