Private and affiliated with the Catholic Church, DePaul University found in Chicago, Illinois. The Vincentians established this institution in 1898, and it was named after the French priest Saint Vincent de Paul, who lived during the 17th century. On terms of student body size, it overtook all other Catholic universities in the continent of North America in the year 1998. DePaul University, following in the footsteps of its founders, lays a particular focus on recruiting students who are from underprivileged homes, particularly those who are the first in their families to attend college.

Both of DePaul University's campuses may be found in Chicago's Loop and Lincoln Park neighbourhoods. The Colleges of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, Science and Health, and Education are all located on the Lincoln Park campus of the university. In addition, the John T. Richardson Library, the School of Music, and the Theater School are all located here. The College of Communication, College of Computing and Digital Media, and College of Law are all located on the Loop campus. Additionally, the School of Public Service and the School for New Learning are all located on this site. In addition to this, it is the location of the nationally recognised Kellstadt Graduate School of Business, which is a component of the Driehaus College of Business, which is the ninth oldest business school in the United States. In addition, the Loop campus is home to the Rinn Law Library, the Student Center, which is run by Barnes & Noble, and the Loop Library. There are around 14,500 students enrolled in the university's undergraduate programme, in addition to approximately 7,900 graduate and law students. Around ninety percent of DePaul's students either travel to school or reside off campus, as stated on the website of the Division of Student Affairs. The student body is comprised of individuals that from from over 60 different nations, each with their own unique cultural, racial, and religious traditions.

The Blue Demons of DePaul University are the school's intercollegiate sporting teams, and they are members of the Big East Conference. The men's basketball team at DePaul has competed in a total of 18 NCAA tournaments and reached the Final Four on two separate occasions. Under the direction of head coach Tracie Adix-Zins, the DePaul softball team won their 21st NCAA Tournament game in school history in 2019, as well as their third straight Big East Tournament championship.
