David Tudehope (born 2 August 1967) is an Australian entrepreneur, best known as the co-founder and Chief executive officer of Macquarie Telecom Group.[1]

Early life

Tudehope was born on August 2, 1967 in Sydney, New South Wales. He attended the Waverley College in Sydney and received a bachelor's degree in commerce from the University of New South Wales in 1990.[2]

Career

In 1992, David Tudehope co-founded Macquarie Telecom with his brother Aidan Tudehope. The company was founded during the recession and shortly after the telecommunications deregulation.[3] The company was privately run until it was listed on the Australian Securities Exchange|Australian Stock Exchange in 1999.

Tudehope has been described by The Australian as "a pioneer in the liberalisation of Australia’s telecommunications market".[4] Tudehope served as a member of the government's B20 Leadership Group and Australian School of Business Advisory Council. He was a board member of Service Providers' Industry Association and member of Minister for Communications, IT and the Arts Information Economy Advisory Council.[5]

Tudehope is an early adopter of the Net promoter score (NPS) scoring system. During his tenure as CEO, the company went from initially providing only voice services to becoming a fully integrated carrier which transmitted voice, mobile and data networks, as well as a managed data center and hosting solutions to business and government customers across Australia and Asia.[5]

Tudehope has been described in The Australian in 2018 as "a pioneer in the liberalisation of Australia’s Telecommunications in Australia|telecommunications market".[5]

Awards

In 2011, Tudehope received the Charles Todd Medal, his Industry Association’s top award, for his contributions to the Australian Telecommunications Industry.[6]

Tudehope received the Communications Ambassador Award at the ACOMM Awards in 2018.[5]

In 2020, Tudehope was awarded CEO of the Year at the World Communication Awards.[7]
