David Olayinka Akinola[1] (born 22nd June, 1947) is a Professor of General Surgery and the former Chief Medical Director of Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital, Ile-Ife, Nigeria(1998-2005)[2][3]. He was also the Chairman of all CMD's in Nigeria (2004-2005).
Education
David Akinola attended CMS Grammar School, Lagos where he obtained the West African Senior School Certificate Examination in 1965. He proceeded to University of Pécs, Hungary for undergraduate studies in 1969-1976. Then, he went for his Post graduate studies at Post Graduate College Budapest, Hungary.
Career
David Akinola[4] joined the services of Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital in 1977 where he worked under the tutelage of Professor Arigbabu.
He was employed to the university as lecturer I in 1985 and later rose to become a professor in 2000.
He is a fellow of the Hungarian College of Surgeons and International college of surgeons.
As an academic, he has published over 40 journal articles and a book titled "The Human organs: Dead or Alive in a Surgeon's Hand"[5][6] and has won about 27 awards.
It was during his tenure as CMD of OAUTH that the first indigenous kidney transplant in Nigeria[7] [8]was carried out by Prof. T.A. Badmus[9] and his team in 2002[10]
