David McLachlan-Karr

David McLachlan-Karr (born in 1961) of Australia is Deputy Special Representative[1] for the United Nations Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo. He is also the United Nations[2] Resident Coordinator, and Humanitarian Coordinator in the Democratic Republic of the Congo[3]. He was appointed to this position by the United Nations Secretary-General on 27 June 2019.

Career

M. McLachlan-Karr[4] has 28 years of experience at the United Nations, including several in assignments in Africa[5], Asia and Latin America for UNDP and the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian[6] Affairs (OCHA).

Since November 2016, Mr. McLachlan-Karr has served as UN Resident Coordinator, Humanitarian Coordinator, and UNDP Acting Resident Representative in Jordan. Prior to that, Mr. McLachlan-Karr was seconded by the UN to the World Economic Forum in Geneva, where he served as Senior Advisor on Public-Private Partnerships, for the period 2015-2016. Before that, he was the UNDP Resident Coordinator and Resident Representative in Sierra Leone, Maldives, Papua New Guinea and Venezuela.

Prior to his UN first appointment in 1993, Mr. McLachlan-Karr spent eight years with the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs.

Education

Mr. McLachlan-Karr holds an M.A. in International Relations from the University of Cambridge, UK, and a B.A. in International Relations and Law from the University of Queensland, Australia.
