Darnelda Siegers is a Canadian politician active in the town of Sechelt on the Sunshine Coast, British Columbia. She served as Mayor of Sechelt from 2018-2022, when she lost re-election. She was a District of Sechelt councillor from 2011-2018. The chair of the Sunshine Coast Regional District in 2022 and 2023. [1][2]In 2016 she sought the BC Liberal nomination for Powell River-Sunshine Coast. But she withdrew to run for Mayor.[3]The nomination ended up going to Matthew Wilson, who lost to incumbent BC NDP MLA Nicholas Simons. In late 2023 Simons announced he was retiring. Siegers, along with 4 other candidates subsequently ran for the BC NDP nomination in Powell River-Sunshine Coast.[4] During the race she was questioned for switching to the BC NDP, after her prior affiliation with more centrist parties.[5]She lost the nomination to Randene Neill, who went on to win in the 2024 general election. She has since remained an active member of the BC NDP.[6][7]
Early life and Career
Siegers was born and spent her early life in Medicine Hat Alberta. She moved to Sechelt in 2007. She works as a mortgage broker. She lives with her husband and has several children and grandchildren.
