Dariush Hosseini ( born in Karaj 1970) is a contemporary Iranian painter.[1] He was instructor and a faculty member of Painting Department in College of Fine Arts of the University of Tehran from 1996 till 2011.[2]

Life

Childhood and adolescence

Dariush Hosseini, child of Mahdi Hosseini and Zari Safari, was born in 13 of January in 1970 in Tehran. He and his family moved to Karaj in 1976, and he spent all his school time there for twelve years. He was the second child of the family and he has one brother and two sisters. He started painting when he was seven intrinsically and without training and kept it on till he was eleven. He didn’t have a childish style and he tended to express reality in his works. Then, because of sport activities, he quit painting for seven years and he studied Experimental Science in high school.

College education

A year after receiving his Diploma, he was accepted in College of Fine Arts of the University of Tehran in Painting and he has been painting and drawing non-stop. As a university student, he practiced objective representation painting and drawing with different technics and styles and then dealt with different abstract experiences (1990-1994). After this period, he finished his M.A of Illustration in College of Fine Arts of the University of Tehran in 1997-2000.[3]

The beginning of artistic activities

After finishing his M.A course, he started different formic experiences. During this time, he was preparing the foundation for what is still considered as one of the most important aesthetic elements of his work, what he reminds it as formic essence in painting. The results of these experiences are the emergence of Destruction and drawing, collage and improvising features that were the most important formic characteristics of his works.[4]

The beginning of teaching activities

He had been teaching as invited professor in Tehran Fine Art Faculty from 1996 till 2004 and from February 2004 till January 2010 he became a faculty member of painting department.[5] in 2004, he founded Ariush Visual Art Institute and has been teaching drawing and painting there. This institute is working in drawing, painting, sculpturing and printmaking.

Style

His style is abstract figurative that is the result of turning back from abstraction to reality. In his works, a combination of representation and abstraction in the form of reciprocity between abstract and figurative methods and testing the achievements of these two can be clearly recognized. His series of human figure, mass of skeletons, open wounds and grasshoppers are the results of his experience in these two fields. His selected subjects, usually give him the greatest opportunity to release his visual abilities to create the mental and psychological situations that the painter is interested in.[6]

About the variety of his works, he believes that the artist should be able to expand his form and content by offering new subjects and present the results of his discovery to his viewers.[7] Thus, he avoids presenting a familiar atmosphere with a specific theme and subject for several years and this way he can achieve his goal in discovering new situations.
