D. Ireland Thomas (1875 - 1955) was a columnist with the Chicago Defender, theater owner, and philathropist in the United States.[1] He wrote many articles on African American cinema.[2]

He corresponded with Richard Norman of Norman Studios. He criticized Oscar Micheaux's casting of light skinned actors for lead roles in The Dungeon (film).

He was a native of New Orleans.[3]

He operated the Lincoln Theater in Charleston, South Carolina.[4][5][3][6]

Thomas' was an influential film critic.[7]

He gave a favorable review to Oscar Micheaux's A Son of Satan.[8][9] He wrote about the work of B. L. Teycer's film company in San Antonio, Texas.[10]
