Corey Stanton is a Canadian filmmaker. He made his feature debut with the crime drama Robbery (2018)[1] and followed up with the thriller Trader (2022).[2] Stanton wrote, directed, produced, edited, and composed the music for both films.[1]

Early Life

Prior to pursuing his career in film, Stanton graduated from medical school at the University of Ottawa.[3][1]

Career

Robbery

For his feature debut Robbery, Stanton wrote, directed, produced, edited, and composed the music for the film.[1] At the 2018 Toronto After Dark Film Festival, the film was honored with the Best Canadian Feature Film and Best Supporting Actor awards.[1] At the 2019 Victoria Film Festival, Stanton was honored with the Best Canadian First Feature award.[1] At the 2019 ACTRA Toronto Awards, Robbery actor Jeremy Ferdman was nominated for Outstanding Performance - Male.[4] Robbery was released in 2019, starring Art Hindle, Jeremy Ferdman, Sera-Lys McArthur, John Tench, Jonathan Koensgen, Tara Spencer-Nairn, Jennifer Dale, Andy McQueen, Rachel Wilson, and Adam Tsekhman.[5][6]

Patient People

In 2020, Stanton was selected to direct and produce his short documentary Patient People as part of the CBC Creative Relief Fund. The film stars six of Stanton's medical school classmates, chronicling their experiences as new doctors working during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic. Patient People is available to stream on CBC's streaming platform CBC Gem.[7]

Trader

For his second feature Trader, Stanton wrote, directed, produced, edited, composed the music, and designed the visual effects for the film.[8][2] At the 2022 Hamilton Film Festival, the film was honored with the Best Performance in a Feature, Best Editing, and Best Music awards, as well as honorable mentions for Best Feature Film, Best Director, and Best Screenplay.[9] At the 2022 Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival, the film was honored with the Spirit of Independents award.[10] In 2023, Trader was selected to screen at the genre film festival Panic Fest.[11] Starring Kimberly-Sue Murray, Shaun Benson, Stephen Bogaert, Tim Dowler-Coltman, Ellen Dubin, Samora Smallwood, and Art Hindle, Trader has not yet been released.[12][2]
