Cole J. Williams (born c. 2000[1]) is a nurse, health care activist, and founder of Pride and Plasma[2], a health care policy organization. He was involved in researching and advocating for a revision to the Food and Drug Administration's blood donation deferment policy for LGBTQ+ men.

Education and career

Williams earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing with a minor in Political Science at the University of Cincinnati, graduating in 2023[3].

While attending the University of Cincinnati, he interned in the the United States House of Representatives, for Representative Lauren Underwood.[4]. He also was a member of Pi Lambda Phi fraternity[5], serving as president of the UC chapter in 2022[1]

Activism

In 2022, Williams launched a project to prevent spiked drinks through the University of Cincinnati's Fraternity and Sorority Life office[6].

Pride and Plasma

In May of 2022, Williams founded Pride and Plasma, an organization to advocate for a revision to the FDA's former 3-month deferral policy for blood donations from queer men[7][8][9]. Williams spoke at the FDA's Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research Blood Products Advisory Committee meeting in December of the same year[10]. In 2023, Pride and Plasma expanded their initiatives to include transgender and nonbinary blood donation[11], the FDA's 5-year deferment policy for tissue donations from queer men[12], and the Department of Health and Human Services 30-day policy for organ donation from queer men.

Personal Life

Williams was born in Illinois[13], and resides in Boston, Massachusetts.
