CloutContracts is an open-sourced cryptocurrency and blockchain project originally created by Andrew Kamal and deployed on Jul 27th, 2021, on the Ethereum Blockchain as a rollup layer.[1] CloutContracts is the token behind a smart contracts’ platform for influencers and creators. Its aim was to be part of a high-speed rollup layer that powers the next generation of blockchain developers.[2] On the CloutContracts website, it is noted as having three different development phases.[3] They have also been a part of various airdrops and was originally released as open source.

Development History

CloutContracts was originally an application targeted at supporting creators on the BitClout ecosystem, but quickly outgrew them and spun off.[4] Its founder was also quite critical of BitClout.[5] The deployment of CloutContracts required the deployment of over 120 smart contracts. The source code for the CloutContracts token was also audited by Bit Control, in which it passed the audit.[6] CloutContracts also has a wide variety of different DApps or decentralized applications that utilize CCS (its native token).[7] A good faith legal opinion on CloutContracts (CCS), noted that it is a utility token and likely doesn’t fit the definition of a security.[8]

Whitepaper

Around the same time of the Whitepaper, was also the released definition of IWUP or the Interchain Wallet Key or User Discovery Protocol. The whitepaper for CloutContracts was released on June 7th, 2021,[9] and since then CloutContracts has received various other updates. In the whitepaper, CloutContracts is mentioned as being a smart contracts layer targeting creators. It also mentions various integrations such as being an optimistic rollup, having pegs, DeFi, faucet and various rollup capabilities.

Block Explorer

The very first application on the DApp browser was a block explorer.[10] This block explorer included a mainnet and the transactions for its token and rollup (the Ethereum network), a test net, and the ETC peg and BNB peg which also included lock explorers for those pegs.[11] The block explorer utilized Etherscan, Blockscout, and Bscscan APIs. It is coded primarily with JavaScript, HTML and CSS.[12]

CloutSwap

The next released application listed on the DApp browser was CloutSwap.[13] It is described as an alternative frontend for Uniswap, and its repository says that it’s an open-source fork of the Birbswap Interface, but for CloutContracts. It also mentions that it is not independent or its own DEX, given it is an alternative frontend for Uniswap that utilizes custom smart contracts or JSON token lists.[14]

DApp Browser

The next application to appear utilizing CloutContracts was the DApp browser itself on September 11th, 2021.[15] The CCS DApp Browser utilized the Mediumish theme and has very specific pull request instructions.[16]

Local Wallet

The next application that was developed was the local wallet, which was a local ERC20 wallet for the mainnet token.[17] This was released on the same day as the DApp browser and is an Electron wallet, and there is also a Vue.js wallet as well, of which both were cloned on GitHub. In the About description, it says that the repo is depreciated, and the README states that the code is available just as an option.[18]

Node

Also released on the same day as the Block Explorer, CloutSwap, the DApp Browser, and the Local Wallet was the Node. The Node being developed was a node for CloutContracts and its rollup layers.[19] It utilized make, Docker and MySQL for the backend and is primarily coded in Go.[20] As a node aggregator, it is a fork of the Hubble project which was open source at the time.[21]

API

The next major application release was on January 10th, 2022, and it was the official API for CloutContracts.[22] It was an API rollup implementation powered by utilizing Postman. The API was a JavaScript API, with various routes.[23]

IOTX Crosschain

The Iotex Cross Chain implementation was released on January 10th, 2022, as well.[24] It was a CCS implementation on IoTube.[25] It allowed you to natively switch between CCS and IOTX across blockchains.

XDAI Bridge

On January 23rd, 2022, was the release of the XDAI Bridge integration.[26] The XDAI integration was a crosschain bridge between CloutContracts and the GNOSIS chain for XDAI. It was a permittable token.[27] The GNOSIS bridge is mentioned in the original repo for the initial PeopleDAO launch that was on Colony.[28] Colony is described as a quick and simple DAO maker.[29] However, it looks like CloutContracts may integrate to other platforms in the future as well, such as Superdao.[30] A CloutContracts DAO did seem to appear on the Superdao app and Superdao does integrate Ethereum and GNOSIS as well as Polyscan.[31]

Decentralized University

Another application mentioned was the Decentralized University, which was announced on February 23rd, 2022, in the form of a landing page.[32] The Decentralized University is described as wanting to, “level up the playing field in academics”. They claim to want to use the decentralized-internet SDK, CloutContracts, and BitBadges.[33] Development has been ongoing.

CloutContracts Payment Gateway

On March 22nd, 2022, there was a Poof payment gateway for the native CloutContracts token.[34] The Poof gateway would allow for people to integrate CCS with their e-commerce websites.[35] Poof also has its own website API integration.[36]

Bridge to Celo

On April 26th, 2022, CCS was bridged to Celo utilizing the Optics bridge.[37] The Optics bridge originally was done with 2M CCS tokens, 5 as a test, and then 1,999,995 afterwards.[38] On the Optics monorepo on GitHub, it says Optics was meant for interchain communication.[39]

BNB/ETH Bridge

On April 27th, 2022, CloutContracts got a bridge for its CCS token to BNB. The bridge crosses CloutContracts_Peg tokens on the BSC chain to Crosschain CloutContracts on the ETH network.[40] This BNB-ETH bridge was done through the Cross-Chain Bridge App.[41]

Unicrypt Integration

On April 28th, 2022, was a lock integration with the Unicrypt app. Some tokens were locked on the Uncrypt Network through vesting smart contracts.[42] This was at the time 1M tokens.[43] There was also a 3,512 token fee for the vesting.[44] CloutContracts afterwards have since continued its development journey.[45]
