Claudio Laudani is an Italian contemporary artist. He is a proponent of the "Fifth Dimension artistic movement. Sometimes credited as "GAS", Laudani is known for his religious art including the outdoor photo installation "Madonna” (2000) and a painting inspired by Caravaggio's "Saint Francis of Assisi in Ecstasy" which hangs in the Church of San Francesco Grande in Padua, Italy.

Early life and education

Laudani was born in Treviso, Italy in 1955. He is graduate from the University of Padua with a math degree. From 1976 to 1980, he also attended Toni Benetton's Accademia del Ferro (Iron Academy) for blacksmithing. Laudani also studied under the sculptor Romano Abate's studio[1] and the artist Sergio Longo.

Career

In 2000, drawing on his photography experience, he shot a Renaissance-inspired reproduction of the "Madonna”. The photo was displayed in Corato, Bari, Italy, as an example of religious street art.[2]

In 2002, Paduan writer, wrote a poem inspired by Laudani's art, in which Laudani also features in Mozzi's book "Le ripetizioni" as the character "GAS".[2] An excerpt of Mozzi's book was published in the Chicago Review with the title “Treatise on Awakening Sentiment”,[3] which is also a title of one of Claudio Laudani's paintings,

Since 2024, one of his works - a crucifixion, oil on wood, has been displayed in the , the parish church of Recoaro Terme.

One of Laudani's more important works is a painting inspired by Caravaggio's "Saint Francis of Assisi in Ecstasy" which hangs in the Church of San Francesco Grande in Padua, Italy)[4], in the chapel of the stigmata.

Recently, Laudani has been exploring the fusion of fine arts and mathematics in the concept of “identification of shape”.

Laudani is a proponent of the "Quinta dimensione" Fifth Dimension artistic movement.[5] He is also referred to at times as as "GAS" (Grande Artista Sconosciuto or the "great unknown artist").[6][7][8]

Laudani's art is inspired by artists such as Christian Rex van Minnen and Rembrandt.
