Citadelo[1] is a European cybersecurity firm operating in Slovakia, the Czech Republic, and maintains a strong footprint in Switzerland. The firm was established to help Fortune 500 companies across industries achieve a higher level of security by engaging in simulated attacks. This includes penetration testing, cloud security testing, and IT infrastructure testing.

History

Citadelo was founded by ethical hackers Juraj Bednár and Tomáš Zaťko, who is also the CEO of the company. The firm was formed in 2006 in Bratislava, Slovakia, to help businesses better secure their infrastructure with the help of ethical hacking services.

In 2017, Citadelo opened a branch in the Czech Republic to meet the growing demand in the region. In 2020, the Swiss-based cloud security provider, Artmotion, became the primary shareholder of Citadelo and became a member of the board.

Tomas Zatko is the group-wide CEO. The firm's first employee, Martin Hanic, is an ethical hacker, shareholder, board member, Tomas Horvath, the Sales Director, shareholder and board member. Martin Leskovjan is the Head of Consulting, shareholder and board member. Mateo Meier represents Artmotion's interest in the company and as a shareholder and board member.

Vulnerability in VMware Cloud Director

In May 2020, Citadelo’s ethical hackers discovered a permeability in VMware-Cloud Director that left all the private clouds exposed and open to takeover.[2]

The vulnerability – CVE-2020-3056 – was significant as bad actors could successfully exploit a cloud provider and compromise private clouds held by the company in what’s known as a supply chain attack.
