Christy Coté is an Argentine tango dancer, choreographer, and teacher. She is best known for her Dance Vision[1] Argentine Tango manuals and over 400 instructional videos with partners George Garcia, Ney Melo, Marcelo Molina and Eduardo Saucedo. She is one of the featured teachers and performers for CITA (Congreso Internaciónal de Tango Argentino), a judge for events such as the World tango dance tournament Argentine Tango USA Championship, and a founding member of the all-female tango company, Tango Con*Fusion.

Career

Early Training & Performing

After early training in ballet, jazz, and tap dance, Coté began her professional dance career as a member of the Poole Dancers (1978-1979) directed by American Bandstand national USA disco champions Gary & Gloria Poole. She went on to teach atArthur Murray Dance Studios (1979-1981) where she met ballroom dance partner Dante Bernardini. From 1987 to 1992 Coté & Bernardini danced with the The Ritz Dancers performing vintage dances of the 1920s at Art Deco Society of California and other events throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. From 1991 to 1994 Coté performed with The Ricco Italian Dancers at festivals in Reno, Portland, and the San Francisco Bay Area. She competed in the Professional American Rhythm category on the ballroom competitive circuit (1991-1995) with dance partner Larry Janssen, earning top five placements at many U.S. competitions.

1990s through 2010s

From 1999 to 2011 Coté directed the Argentine Tango program at The Metronome Ballroom in San Francisco. In 2007 she began the program "Tango Boot Camps" offering intensive training for dancers in Argentine Tango. Coté co-hosted the Verdi Club Milonga (also known as The Mariposa Tango Club) with Victor Meneses (1996-2007) and Adolfo Caszarry (2009-2014).

Current

Coté is based in the San Francisco Bay Area and teaches weekly classes at La Pista and other studios. She continues her Tango Boot Camps with Eduardo Saucedo at various locations around the Bay Area. She performs with various partners for special events, co-directs Tango Con*Fusión dance company, and works with various artists to choreograph film, television, and special events.

Coté has been featured in Dance Spirit, TangoZapa and La Milonga Argentina.
