Christine Giampaoli Zonca (born 22 July 1993) is an Italian/Canarian rally and off-road race driver who works under the nickname Christine GZ.
Early life
Christine was born to Italian parents in India, where she lived for 8 years before moving to Milan, Italy, and then finally to the Canary Islands[1].
Racing career
Christine is one of a small handful of female rally and off-road drivers in the world. According to her website, she moved into the sport a little later than most people, working her way up through the ranks through hard work, initially beginning at her neighbour's garage[2]. She bought her first chassis, a 1988 Golf MKII, followed quickly by the car that really got her started in the sport[3], a 1989 Rally Corolla that she named "Lolla"[1].
In 2014, she won her first title, the overall Championship of the Canaries[1]. Christine is a Can-Am Ambassador[4]. In 2016, Christine was a member of the first all-female rally team to compete at the World Rally Championships[5].
Personal
On top of her professional racing career, Christine has also earned her Motorsports Technology BSc (Hons) from the Birmingham City University [6]. She originally began working on an Economics degree, but then decided to follow her heart and became a motorsport engineering technologist[7].
