Chia-Hao Tang[1] (born August 24, 1988), professionally known as Chase Tang, is a Taiwanese-Canadian actor,[2][3] mental health advocate,[4] and philanthropist,[5] based in Toronto, Canada.[6] He appears as a supervillain in the upcoming Netflix superhero series, Jupiter's Legacy.[5] He is also a former Nova Scotia AAA hockey player.[7][8]

Early life and education

Tang was born to an entrepreneur father, Fortune Tang, and a stay at home mother, Shu Wei Chen, in Taipei, Taiwan. He has two elder brothers. In 1994, Tang's family immigrated to Bedford, Nova Scotia, Canada. He grew up in Bedford and Upper Tantallon, playing hockey,[9] and was a player for the Halifax MacDonald's Hockey Midget Triple 'A' league for two years.[5]

Tang attended Sir John A. Macdonald High School.[10] After spending eleven years of his life in Nova Scotia, he left for Ontario to pursue a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Guelph.

In late 2015, Tang struggled with deteriorating mental health. To mitigate the recurring mental issues, he left his corporate job in Toronto in the spring of 2016 to follow his long-time interest, modeling and acting.[5] He began his first acting class in May 2016, and in August 2018, Tang joined Actra.[11]

Career

Tang's acting career began in 2017 with uncredited roles. His debut professional acting started with a POM juice commercial.[12] Since then, he has worked in several short films[2] and TV series.[13] His movie, View, earned him a trip to the 2018 Cannes Film Festival.

In 2020, Tang became the global spokesman of Presotea, a bubble tea brand in Taipei, Taiwan.[14][15] He is an ambassador for TITIKA Active Couture.

Tang appears in the HBO TV series, Run.[16]

Activism

Tang utilizes his celebrity platform to raise mental health awareness.[4] He talked on mental health for The Asian Mental Health Collective,[17] and was featured in the UN Environment Programme's (UNEP) "World Is In Our Hands" campaign, a UN's Act Now initiative for climate change awareness.[18]

Awards and recognition

Tang was placed second on the top 10 rising Asian actors in Hollywood by Internet Movie Database.[5]
