Charles Arthur Williams is a retired Rear admiral United States Navy. In 2020 he was appointed to the position of Assistant Secretary of the Navy (Installations and Environment), Installations and Environment.
Early life and education
Williams was born in St. Louis, Missouri. He earned business degrees at Southeast Missouri State University (BS) in 1972 and St. Louis University (MBA) in 1981.[1]
Williams served in the United States Navy for 32.5 years, attaining the rank of Rear Admiral,[1] and retiring in 2005. He had five commanding officer tours including overseas assignments. He served on 3 aircraft carriers and a submarine. While deployed aboard USS America he participated in a non-combatant evacuation of Americans out of war torn Lebanon.[2] His highest military award was the Legion of Merit.[2]
Government career
In November 2019, Williams was nominated by President Trump for the position of Assistant Secretary of the Navy for Energy, Installations and Environment.[3] He had responsibility for 100 naval and marine corps installations around the world. During his Senate confirmation hearing, Williams' real estate background was noted as beneficial experience for the position, which included oversight for Navy housing.[4] He was confirmed by the Senate in March 2020.[5]
Civilian career
In his civilian career, he held positions as an Independent Board of Director with a private equity firm, Business and Defense executive, Real Estate CEO, commercial broker, investor, airline pilot, logistician, public speaker and St. Louis University adjunct professor.[6] He also served as President of the Navy League of the Greater St. Louis area from 2009 until 2013 and as the audit committee chairman of a national non-profit.
Personal life
Williams is married to Laurie and they have two children.[1]
