Chander Mohan (born 20 November 1969), also known as Chander Mohan Parasher, is an international Film director, Screenwriter, Actor and Film producer, who won the Best Director Award for his American short movie imdbtitle:14812406 (Deep Fall).

Early life

Chander Mohan originally hails from Chandigarh. He was born to Brij Bhushan Lal, a banker by profession and Tripta Devi, who was a homemaker. He has three siblings. He studied in DAV senior secondary school and later he graduated from Khalsa College of Law, Chandigarh. He found his passion for cinema right from the beginning. He was very fond of watching films at the local theatre and was highly impressed by directors like Martin Scorsese and Raj Kapoor by their filmmaking style. Some of the films which had a great impact on him include Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, Awaara and Mera Naam Joker(1970). Inspired by these legends, Chander moved to Mumbai in 1998 to pursue his career in films. His brother, Rabinder Parasher, who was already assisting Mahesh Bhatt and Tanuja Chandra, helped him to join Mahesh Bhatt's production house Vishesh Films (p) Ltd. He started his career as a production assistant with the films Ghulam (film) and Yeh Hai Mumbai Meri Jaan (1999). He learned the art of filmmaking and screenwriting while doing the production job in these films.

Chander Mohan later joined filmmaker Vidhu Vinod Chopra's production house as a production assistant for a short period of time and immediately after that he got an opportunity to Write some film-based programmes for IN MUMBAI and B4U (network).

Craft, style, and technical collaborations

Chander made his debut as an actor in a bollywood feature film titled Yeh Sunday Kyun Aata Hai in 2010, in which he played the role of a photographer, named Roxy.

In 2013, Chander did his next Bollywood film as a Writer, Lyricist and Actor titled imdbtitle:14824912, which was released on October 24, 2014, in theatres all over India.

Chander also started teaching acting and script writing to aspiring actors and writers, which include Yeh Sunday Kyun Aata Hai and Kabab Mein Haddi as well. He has shown his magical creative skills for theatre productions as well.

Chander became an international filmmaker in 2018, by opening his own production house named Chander Mohan Film Production and by making an American web series titled Playing with the Past in collaboration with the production houses of his brothers Rajesh Prasher, who is an Indian filmmaker and Rabinder Parasher, who is a US based filmmaker. This web series is written and produced by Rabinder Parasher, Chander Mohan, Rajesh Prasher and directed by Hiu Kwong Yau and Rabinder Parasher. Moreover, Playing with the Past won the "Best Web Series" and "Best Producer" awards at several film festivals.

Chander made his debut as a director in an American short movie titled Deep Fall in 2020 and he won the "Best Director Award" at various short film festivals. Deep Fall is a one-character movie starring Rajesh Prasher, who also won the best actor award at "Best Istanbul film festival" and several other national and international short film festivals. This movie deals with the sensitive issue of terrorism, and it is written and produced by Rabinder Parasher, Chander Mohan, and Rajesh Prasher.

Chander produced one more American short movie in 2020, titled Colors of Truth, which has been written and produced by Rabinder Parasher, Chander Mohan, Rajesh Prasher and directed by Rabinder Parasher. This short movie fetched the "Best Director Award" at the "Phoenix international short film festival", Canada" and several other national and international short film festivals. This movie exposes the abuse of Indian women by their Non-resident Indian and person of Indian origin|NRI(Non-Resident Indian) husbands and at the same time, this film carries a social message for those girls who are thinking of marrying a man abroad.

Future projects

Currently, Chander is preparing to play an important role in an American movie and also, he has been offered to work as a theatre director in the west. Chander is also gearing up to direct the Season 2 of his American web series Playing with the past.
