Cate Fleming (born July 27, 2005)[1] is an American junior-level pair skater from Brookline, Massachusetts.[1] Together with her skating partner, Chase Finster, Fleming competes in the junior pairs category and is known for her dynamic performances and technical skill.

Early Life and Education

Cate Fleming was born in Boston, Massachusetts, and grew up in the nearby town of Brookline[2][3]. She began her skating journey at a young age, showing promise and dedication from the outset. She is currently studying at Bates College in Lewiston Maine.

Early Career[4]

Fleming started her figure skating career in singles before moving into the pairs discipline. Initially, she skated with Jedidah Isbel[5], with whom she achieved a notable success by earning the U.S. junior pewter medal in 2020. During her early years, she was coached by Suna Murray and later by the duo Fred and Melanie Palascak.

Partnership with Chase Finster

In March 2021, Fleming teamed up with Chase Finster to compete in junior pairs. The pair train in Irvine, California, at the SC of New York under the guidance of coaches Jenni Meno, Todd Sand, Chris Knierim, and Christine Binder. Choreographers Philip Mills, John Kerr, and Sinead Kerr have been instrumental in creating their competition programs.

Competitive Highlights

Fleming and Finster have quickly made their mark on the junior circuit, with notable performances including a second-place finish at the 2021 John Nicks International Pairs Challenge, and a sixth-place finish at the 2022[6] U.S. Championships in the junior category.[7] In 2020, she competed at the Youth Winter Olympics[8] earning a silver medal.[9]

Personal Life

Fleming is the daughter of Rachel Renton and Mark Fleming and has a sister named Claire who also skates. Her hobbies and interests outside the rink include cooking, reading, hiking, biking, skiing, and kayaking. Fleming is also a dedicated volunteer, serving as an ambassador for Diversify Ice and working with Someone Cares Soup Kitchen. She is also an animal lover, with a particular affection for corgis, including her own dog, Cai, and her parakeet, Snowbelle.
