The Ametller Origen group, also known by their commercial brand Casa Ametller, is a business group specialized in the distribution of food products. Their central offices are located in Sant Pere Molanta, in Olèrdola (Alt Penedès).[1] Their products and their communication tools are in Catalan, which is why in 2016 they won the Premi Pompeu Fabra.[2]

History

The company was founded in Olèrdola[1] in 2001 by Josep Ametller and his brother Jordi,[3]they came from a lineage of farmers from Penedès that used to sell in street markets in the 19th century. They decided to create a company that could sell their fresh products directly to their customer without having to go through intermediaries.[4] Their first store opened in one of the municipal markets of Vilafranca del Penedès. In 2002 they opened a store in Martorell's market, and in 2004 they started to expand into Maresme.[5] Progressively they started a process of Vertical integration, which allowed them to control the process of creation and distribution of most of the products they sold.[6]

In 2014 the company generated more than 100 million euros and it grew by a 20% compared to 2013.[7] On march 2015 they opened a new line of stores, known as Ametller Origen, where the products are organized by food groups and, in some cases, the stores included degustation spaces[8][9]. On june 2016 fifteen stores were already operating in this way.

Their products are commercialized in catalan, these products come mainly from the company's own agricultural projects in Penedès, Maresme, Almería and Murcia.[9] They are sold through a net of stores owned by the company, located in several areas of Catalonia. In 2016 they opened a new store in Igualada and they hired the cook Isma Prados to incorporate a new line of pre-made dishes to their stores .[10]They also started to sell their products online.[11]

The company also owns two restaurants which were purchased in the year 2017[12]
