Brian Distance is an American television and film actor and Wall Street lawyer.[1][2][3] As an actor, he has starred in numerous episodic television, films, commercials, and off-Broadway productions. He is known for portraying the “tough-yet-honest” law enforcement officer.[4][5][6]
Distance has appeared in many television episodics such as FBI, NCIS: New Orleans, NOS4A2, Billions, Bull, Blindspot, 30 Rock, and House of Cards.[7] Further, Distance has co-starred in several major studio film projects such as Green Book (which won several Academy and other theatrical awards),[8] Tower Heist, Side Effects, Law Abiding Citizen, and How Do You Know. [9]
Early life and education
Distance was born in Baltimore, Maryland. He attended Loyola High School - Blakefield and later graduated in Mechanical and Industrial Engineering from Marquette University.[10] He completed his law studies at Tulane University Law School. He was inclined towards acting at an early age and cultivated his passion for theatre by acting in various plays during his primary, secondary and high school days.
Distance had a close encounter witnessing the terrorist attacks of September 11th, in New York City. That incident led him to leave his Wall Street job at that time and pursue his career as an actor. Thereafter, he enrolled at the prestigious William Esper Studio (NYC) and graduated from its Two-year Professional Actor Training Program.
Career
As an actor, Distance started his journey after graduating from the William Esper Studio. Since then he has acted in numerous episodic television, commercials, films, stage, and off-Broadway productions. He is best known for his role in the multi Oscar-winning and multi-Golden Globe-winning film “Green Book” and his recurring role as New Orleans Police Department Sergeant Gordon on the television series NCIS: New Orleans. Additionally, he has co-star appearances on Bull (CBS), City on a Hill (Showtime); NOS4A2 (AMC), House of Cards (Netflix), Billions (Showtime), Blindspot (NBC), The Mysteries of Laura (NBC), Daredevil (Netflix) and 30 Rock (NBC).[11]
Apart from his many successes on stage, film and television, Distance is an experienced structured finance lawyer who has worked for several major international investment banks such as Goldman Sachs, Barclays, JP Morgan Chase Bank, Morgan Stanley, UBS, and Credit Suisse.[12]
