Black Desert Mobile (Korean: 검은사막 모바일) is a MMORPG developed by Korean game developer Pearl Abyss. First released in South Korea, Black Desert Mobile is available worldwide for both iOS and Android devices.[1] The game has made a successful global debut with 4.5 million pre-registrations[2] and becoming #1 game app in North America and Southeast Asian regions.[3]

Character development and field hunting are the mainstays of the gameplay in Black Desert Mobile. The main goal of the game is to strengthen characters by going through various content such as defeating World Bosses. A secondary entity called the “Black Spirit” acts as a unique in-game system that helps characters to clear quests, receive rewards, and level up characters.

Black Desert Mobile has been acknowledged as a well-made mobile MMORPG since its release in February 2018. The game was first announced in 2016 where Pearl Abyss founder Dae-il Kim led the development.[4] Black Desert Mobile utilized the popular Black Desert IP and was successfully launched across the world. Developed with the company's own engine, Black Desert Mobile offers high-quality graphics and action systems to 150 countries in 11 languages.

The World

In Black Desert Mobile, two countries are looking for the Black Stones, which contain knowledge of an Ancient civilization. On one side is Calpheon, the country of capital and commerce, and the other is Valencia, a royal and conservative kingdom. Both sides attempt to strengthen an old, corrupt system while characters and major NPCs fight a war of independence. These characters interact with the Black Spirit and try to strengthen themselves through adventures. Black Stones exist in large quantities in the desert between Calpheon and Valencia. Calpheon refers to this land covered with Black Stones as the “Black Desert” and have begun a war to take over the resources there. Valencia calls this land the “Red Desert” to recognize the blood that have spilled due to this war.[5]

Some positive reviews Black Desert Mobile received from media includes "Excellent graphics It's hard to find comparable competitors right now!" by Thai game media Playulti.[6] VentureBeat also commented on the game engine, "Pearl Abyss’s engine on mobile looks just as good as many console and PC games."[2] On the other hand, Indonesian game media KINCIR criticized the game, saying "This game is quite demanding in terms of performance and storage space for your device."[7]
