Bhimarjun Acharya (LL.M, Ph.D. born 18 December 1971) is a Nepali scholar, writer and analyst specializing in comparative constitution and constitutional law. He is a law practitioner in the Supreme Court of Nepal. He has served various government committees, national institutions and constitutional bodies of the government of Nepal including the constituent assembly especially on constitutional and political matters.

Education

Bhimarjun Acharya was schooled from a government school in his hometown. After completing his school, he moved to the capital city, Kathmandu. He has received his B.L.(1996), LL.M. (1998) and Ph.D(2008) on the subject of Constitutional Law from the Law Faculty, Tribhuvan University, Nepal. He has studied on human rights from the International Human Rights Academy-2004, the Utrecht University, the Netherlands.

Career

Lawyer and Constitutional Expert

He started his career as a lawyer by establishing his own law firm, Alliance Law Firm in Kathmandu and has delivered lecture on jurisprudence at LL.M. program at Kathmandu School of Law, PU from 2011 to 2016. He also delivers lectures at Kathmandu School of Law, PU, Kathmandu on contemporary legal and political matters and at Nepal Law Campus, Kathmandu on constitution and jurisprudence.He has been practicing[1] law in the Supreme Court of Nepal since 1999. Having written more than 20 books on constitution, law and political issues[2] he specializes in comparative constitution and constitutional law[3][4][5].

He has been quoted and mentioned in several news reports and interview of several media, including Reuters[6][7], BBC Nepali[8], The Kathmandu Post [9][10][11], The Himalayan Times[12][13][14], etc. on law, politics and constitutional issues of Nepal.

Music

Dr. Acharya is known as Arjun Milan[15] in his music works. He has written, composed and sung over two dozen of Nepali songs[16][17][18].

Activism

Bhimarjun Acharya has been strongly vocal[19] against the unconstitutional dissolution[20] of House of Representatives|House of Representatives of Nepal on December, 2020 and he pleaded[21] on behalf of the petitioners against the dissolution to argue before the Supreme Court of Nepal|Constitutional Bench of the Supreme Court (SC) on the dissolution of House of Representatives (HoR)[22][23] .
