Ben Brown is an English Legal practitioner and the Crown Counsel to the British Overseas Territory of Saint Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha.[1][2][3]

He is an advocate for social mobility within the legal profession.[4][5]

Early life and education

Brown was born and grew up in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, England.[6] He was raised in a working-class, single parent family and attended All Saints' Catholic Academy[4]} and Vision West Nottinghamshire College. He obtained his undergraduate law degree at Nottingham Law School and completed his Legal Practice Course|Legal Practice Couse at the University of the West of England, Bristol. Brown obtained Solicitor advocate of audience shortly after being admitted to the Roll of Solicitors.[7]

Legal career

Brown worked as a criminal defence solicitor in Nottingham, England.[8][9][10][11][12][13] He has provided legal commentary on criminal law to the media.[14][15]

On 9 February 2021, the Governor of Saint Helena|Governor of St Helena appointed Brown as the Politics of Saint Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha#Judiciary|Crown Prosecutor for the British Overseas Territory of Saint Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha.[16] He is Crown Counsel at the Attorney General's Chambers in Jamestown, Saint Helena and prosecutes cases before the St Helena Magistrates' Court|Saint Helena Magistrates' Court, Saint Helena Supreme Court and the Court of Appeal.[17][18]

Brown is an advocate for social mobility within the legal profession and a vocal critic of the UK Government's funding cuts to the justice system[4][19][20]
