B.S. Sandhu (Baljit Singh Sandhu) PPM, (born on 6 September 1958) is a former Indian Police Service officer[1] and former Director General of Police (DGP) of Haryana. He also served as the Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) in Haryana. He is also known for his philanthropic works.[2]

Sandhu completed a B.Com & LL.B. at Delhi University and is married to Kiran Kaur. They have one daughter and two sons.
Service history
- Indian Police Service,Haryana State (December 1984-January 2019)
- Joined IPS as ASP on 10th March 1986,after completing formal training at various Government Institutes.
- Served as SP,headed police force in 6 districts (Hisar,Karnal,Kaithal,Rothak,Ambala and Sirsa) of Haryana.
- Served as DIG , IGP , ADGP and finally as DGP (Director General of Police) in various Police Departments.
- Headed the Haryana State Police as Director General Police from April 2017 to January 2019 and retired as DGP Haryana.
Career highlights
In 1994 Sandhu established a D.A.V Police public school with 12 rooms and 116 students, and currently, it accommodates over 4,000 students, providing education up to the highest level. His efforts have led to more than 22,000 students receiving education, along with showcasing their talents in sports and cultural activities at the national and international levels, in the 22 Police DAV Public Schools in Haryana.[1]
While serving as Chairman and MD Haryana Police Housing Corporation constructed ultramodern work places including- Police Station and Police Posts,Training centres & comfortable housing for policemen of all ranks in all the districts.[4]
In August 2017, Sandhu inaugurated the "Gulabi Mahila Thana" (Pink Women Police Station) in Panchkula, Haryana. This was a new concept with the aim of providing a safe and welcoming environment for women to report crimes and seek justice. Sandhu's initiative was widely praised by women's rights activists and the general public, who saw it as a positive step towards addressing the issue of crime against women.[5]
In July 2017, Sandhu announced the launch of "Operation Durga," a special police drive to crack down on sexual harassment and eve-teasing (catcalling) in public places across the state. The initiative was named after the Hindu goddess Durga, who is seen as a symbol of strength and power[6].
In January 2018,Sandhu took several measures to strengthen the state police force, including the creation of the Special Task Force (STF). The STF is a specialized unit of the Haryana Police that is tasked with tackling organized crime and other serious offenses. The STF has since proven to be very successful unit of Haryana Police[7].
In November 2018, Sandhu announced that 29 new police stations were to be set up in Haryana as part of an ongoing initiative to expand the state's police network. The new police stations were designed to improve the coverage and effectiveness of the police force, and to enhance its ability to respond to emergencies and incidents and the announcement of the new police stations was welcomed by residents and local officials, who saw it as a positive step towards improving law and order in the state. The move was also seen as a testament to Sandhu's commitment to modernizing and strengthening the police force in Haryana and Sandhu's work as DGP Haryana was appreciated by both the residents and Police Force[8].
