Badshah Masala is an Indian manufacturer, distributor, and exporter of ground spices and spice mixtures.[1][2] Founded in 1958, the company is headquartered in Mumbai, India & has its operations spread over 21 other locations globally.[3][4][5][6]

Badshah Masala is best known for its vast range of grounded, blended & whole spices sourced from every corner of the country.[7] Badshah Masala, since its inception, has grown to become one of the leading companies in the Indian spice industry selling over 48 different blends and powdered spices ranging from curry masala to red chili powder.[8][9][10]

History

Badshah Masala was established in 1958 by Mr. Jawaharlal Jamnadas Jhaveri.[11][12] Initially, the company sold only two products Garam Masala and Tea Masala, which were marketed to the neighbouring towns by Mr. Jhaveri and his father on bicycles. Eventually, a small unit in Ghatkopar was set up which quickly got upgraded to a large 6000 sq. feet factory in Umbergaon (Gujarat) where the production of several new products got started that included Pav Bhaji Masala, Chat Masala & Chana Masala.[13][14]

Mr. Hemant Jhaveri expressed an interest in joining the family firm and leading it forward. As a fresher out of college, he began working in 1994 and gradually learned about procurement, sales, administration, and the factory.[15][16] Following his father's death in 1996, he assumed leadership of Badshah Masala at the age of 23.[17][18]

The company became well-known for its memorable jingle from the 1990s, 'Swaadh Sugandh Ka Raja, Badshah Masala,'.[19] Badshah Masala has been in business for over six decades and offers a diverse selection of masalas' (spices) for a variety of cuisines, such as biryani-pulao masala, chana- masala, curry-masala, and dhansak masala.[20][21]

Current status

Badshah Masala today has a range of 48 products available in numerous packaging options. These include ground and blended spices, whole spices, premix tea packets that all are free of preservatives.[22]

Badshah Masala manufactures 400-500 tonnes of spices per month and trades in six categories with approximately 60 SKUs.[23] It competes with companies like Vasant Masala, Pushp Masala, Mahashian Di Hatti Ltd (MDH), Everest Food Products Pvt Ltd, Mother Spice Ltd & others that contributes 35 percent to the spices market.[24][25]
