Artemis Akbary is an Afghan LGBTIQ rights activist. He is the founder and executive director of the Afghan LGBT Organization (ALO)[1][2][3] and radio producer and presenter of Radio Ranginkaman, the first and and only media outlet for LGBTIQ people in Afghanistan and Iran.[4]

Akbary has spoken at the European Parliament[5][6][7] and the United Nations Security Council.[2][8][3]

Life

Akbary was a refugee in Iran with his parents. Due to receiving persecution based on his sexual orientation, he fled Iran and asked for asylum in Turkey;[9][10][11] after being persecuted again in Turkey because of his activism, he moved to the Czech Republic.[11][12]
