Anthony Ortiz
Anthony Ortiz.[1] (born 01/22/98), is an American singer and songwriter born in St. Petersburg, Florida and is now based in Los Angeles. Ortiz’ music meanders across multiple genres and sub-genres while primarily focusing on pop, pop-punk and R&B[2]. He has released 11 studio singles since 2019[3], and has recently signed (2023) to Los Angeles-based label Red Slushy Records[4].
Early Life
Anthony Ortiz[5] was born in Florida, USA to Eric Ortiz (father) and Elizabeth Ortiz (mother). He also has three siblings, including Katelyn Ortiz (sister), Eric Ortiz Jr. (brother) and John Tucker (brother). Having given birth to him at an early age while in the occupation of both the medical and military fields, Ortiz’ mother and father moved the family around a lot during his upbringing. Before finding his lane in music, Ortiz’s passion for skateboarding saw him wanting to go pro. Under a more practical lens, Ortiz also considered a career as a cardiologist as he enjoyed studying that division in biology during his school years.
Ortiz’ didn’t find his affinity towards music until High School, but still pursued jobs outside of the industry, starting off with working at a prominent Laser Tag business in his home town. Following that, Ortiz’ jumped around jobs which included being a baker at Nestle® Toll House and working at a construction company pumping concrete. During his early career, Ortiz’s newly found love for music had him singing live under bridges to busk for extra money, with his natural talent having landed him on Spanish-language American singing competition show, La Banda (The Band), where Ortiz performed (2015)[6].
Ortiz’s appearance on "La Banda" grabbed the attention of the producers at NBC’s American singing reality competition television series, The Voice, which brought Ortiz out to Los Angeles for the first time. After his experience performing for and appearing in The Voice’s Season 16[7], Ortiz’ decided to skip his flight back home to remain in Los Angeles in a bid to pursue a professional career in music. Traveling around the city from recording session to recording session while also having to live in his car for stints at a time, Ortiz found his footing with the help of Jack Avery, a member of the American pop-rock boy band Why Don’t We. Avery offered Ortiz a place to stay with him, as well as musical guidance which has led Ortiz up to where he is at today.
Musical Career
Having only found his love for music during High School, Anthony Ortiz realized he had raw talent as a singer and songwriter, leading to a nose dive into a music career, but not without grass root beginning. Busking under bridges to help fine tune his newly established passion, as well as to make some side money, Ortiz’ landed a on-screen gig at the Spanish-language singing competition show titled, La Banda (“The Band”), co-created by Ricky Martin and Simon Cowell. It was this performance that got the attention of America’s hit television singing competition series The Voice, with the producers having reached out to Ortiz’ family to secure him for the roster of its 16th Season[8].
These initial on-screen experiences cemented Ortiz’s mind in pursuing a professional career in music, with Ortiz even deciding to not return home during his time on The Voice "Season 16" to chase his dream. Finding a place to stay with his friend Jack Avery in Los Angeles, notably from the boy band, Why Don’t We, who helped guide Ortiz through the early steps of his musical journey, Ortiz set out to record a set of his first studio singles, including “Watch My Fire” (2019)[9], and “What’s the Rush” (2019)[10]
