Andrew Goczkowski is an American politician and the Mayor of Des Plaines, Illinois. Goczkowski assumed office in May of 2021 after serving a partial term as a city council Alderman. Prior to serving in elected office, Goczkowski worked as a senior aid for Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky.[1]

Personal life

Goczkowski was born and raised in Des Plaines. He and his wife have two daughters. [2]

Political career

Prior to serving in elected office, Goczkowski worked as staffer for the United States House of Representatives and served as an aide to Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky and in 2012 worked with local political figures such as Congressman Mike Quigley (politician) and Des Plaines Mayor Marty Moylan to improve the Chicago suburbs' access to O'Hare International Airport.[3]

In Spring 2018 Goczkowski considered running for city council to succeed a term limited incumbent. Goczkowski eventually committed to running in the Spring 2019 election cycle and won a seat as a Des Plaines Alderman for the 8th ward.[4]

In December 2020 Alderman Goczkowski filed to run for Mayor of Des Plaines as incumbent Mayor Matthew Bogusz was limited to two terms. Goczkowski's nominating petitions were challenged by opponent Mike Lake, a candidate who previously tried and failed numerous times to run for Mayor and Alderman. [5] Lake and his attorney alleged that the signatories of the nominating forms that were filed were fraudulent. The local election board investigated Lake's claims and deemed them baseless. Goczkowski was permitted to stay on the ballot as there was no evidence of wrongdoing and noted his disappointment in his opponent.

On April 6th, 2021, Alderman Goczkowski was elected Mayor of Des Plaines by a large margin.[6] He was sworn into office in May of 2021. [7]

In Autumn of 2022 during his tenure as Mayor, Goczkowski collaborated with Illinois Governor J. B. Pritzker to provide food and housing for latin american migrants in Des Plaines following their exile from Texas by Governor Greg Abbott. [8]

Goczkowski is a Democratic Party (United States). [8]
