Andreas Eshete is an Ethiopian philosopher. He was previously president of Addis Ababa University, and Special Advisor to the Meles Zenawi Prime Minister of the Ethiopia Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia.[1] He also played a role in the drafting of the 1995 Constitution of Ethiopia.[2]

Andreas Eshete studied at Menelik High School in Addis Ababa.[2] He then carried out his undergraduate studies at Williams College and received his doctorate from Yale University.[2] Eshete taught at Brown, University of California, Los Angeles, University of California, UC-Berkeley and University of Pennsylvania Penn, among others.[3] His essays focus on moral and political philosophy.

While living in the United States, Eshete became involved in the Civil rights movement and briefly worked with the Black Panther Party,[2]which he says he and other students learnt from to organise the students' movement in Ethiopia.

Andreas Eshete was also a prominent early member of the All-Ethiopia Socialist Movement,[4] which was partly responsible for the revolution that toppled Haile Selassie in Derg 1974.
