Anand Kumar Srivastava (born 13 May 1967) is a senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer who belongs to the 1994 batch and is currently serving in the Rajasthan cadre. Presently, he holds the position of Commissioner of Police in the Jaipur Commissionerate.

Career

Srivastava has served as Superintendent of Police (SP) in Jaipur, Jaipur rural, Bharatpur and Baran.[3] He was also Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) of Bharatpur range.[4] He was posted in Udaipur range, Bharatpur range and Kota range as an Inspector General of Police (IG).[5][6] He is currently posted as the Commissioner of Police, Jaipur Commissionerate since December 2018 (after replacing Sanjay Agarwal IPS).[7][8]

As Jaipur Police Commissioner

In March 2019, Srivastava inaugurated a photography exhibition the context of the Rajasthan Foundation Day celebration.[9]

In October 2021, Srivastava was reported to have assisted an elderly woman who was unable to afford a transport home. Srivastava helped by personally dropping the woman to her destination.[10]

In March 2022, Srivastava made a statement in response to a controversy surrounding the Laxmi Narayan Temple situated in the Badi Chaupar area in Jaipur. Srivastava, in his statement, asserted that the temple would remain intact and any attempts to disrupt the peaceful environment of the area would face strict action.[11]

In March 2023, Srivastava made a statement in which he conveyed that the interview of Lawrence Bishnoi (a criminal known for his involvement in various heinous activities) was not released from Rajasthan.[12][13][14] This refusal occurred while Bishnoi was serving time in Jaipur prison.[15][16][17]

Srivastava has faced controversy in the past over his involvement in the celebration of Holi, an annual Hindu festival of colours.[18][19][20] Every year, several photographs and videos emerge on social media depicting Srivastava and other police personnel participating in the festivities in Jaipur.[21][22] While some considered the traditional "Naagin" dance and "Munni Badnam Hui (from Dabangg)" dance as a harmless expression while others criticized Srivastava and his colleagues for their participation, stating that it was unprofessional for law enforcement officials to engage in such activities.[23][24]

Awards

Srivastava has received several awards and commendations for his professional excellence and public service.[25] He has been involved in several high-profile cases and operations, such as the arrest of gangster Anand Pal Singh in 2015, the rescue of abducted businessman Rajkumar Gupta in 2016, the crackdown on illegal mining and sand mafia in Kota region in 2017, and the handling of communal violence and farmer's agitation in Bharatpur district in 2018.[26][27]

Early life and family

Srivastava was born on 13 May 1967 and raised in Varanasi, a city located in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. He is married to Smita Srivastava, an IPS officer who presently serves as the ADGP Civil Rights in Jaipur, Rajasthan.[28][29]
