His Excellency, Faruk Malami Yabo, MFR is the current Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.[1] He was born on the 30th of September, 1969. He is married with four daughters and two boys. Ambassador Faruk Yabo is a Fellow Certified National Accountant (FCNA) and also a recipient of the Presidential National Honor, Member of the Order of the Federal Republic (MFR) for his outstanding public service as Honorable Commissioner for Finance and subsequently Honorable Commissioner for Local Government and Community Development, Sokoto State, Nigeria. He was the Deputy Governorship Candidate of the APC in Sokoto State in the 2019 general elections. He is a Member of the Board of Trustees of the Buhari Campaign organization (BCO). He was the pioneer Director General of To Be Connected Nigeria (TBCN) and a Founding Member, Admiralty University of Nigeria.[2]

His service as Finance Commissioner in Sokoto State between 2007 to 2012 led to an unprecedented revenue growth in the state. He served as the Chairman, Millennium Development Goals (MDG), Conditional Cash Transfer Program (CCT) Sokoto State, Nigeria; this earned him recognition by the National Office of the MDG. He served as a Member of the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC), as well as a Member of the Joint Tax Board (JTB) and New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD) Peer Review Committee. Ambassador Faruk Yabo served as Chairman Sokoto State Tenders Board. He has been recently appointed to serve as a Member of the Steering Committee Policy Commission of the Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG).[3]

During his service as Honorable Commissioner for Local Government between 2012 to 2015, he spearheaded the effective delivery of critical infrastructure in the 23 Local Governments Area Councils of Sokoto State, Nigeria. These projects and programs which covered primary health care, peace/security and functional entrepreneurship received wide acclaim. The effort earned him recognition from the national and international institutions. They include USAID, the Department of State Services (DSS), State of Georgia, USA, State of Georgia Black Congressional Caucus, the State of Maryland, Washington DC Chamber of Commerce, African Leadership Magazine, News Watch Commissioner of the year award and House of Representatives North West Commissioner for Local Government of the year award.[4]

Prior to joining the Public Sector, Faruk worked with Bank of the North Limited until the late 1990s. He founded a technology Company K Software Technology in the early 2000s. This company pioneered the introduction of Computer Software in the three Major Nigeria Languages; (Igbo, Yoruba and Hausa).[5]

Education

He studied Public Administration at the Bayero University Kano and holds a Masters Degree in Public Policy Administration (MPPA) from the same University. Ambassador Faruk Yabo attended Harvard University, Kennedy School of Government where he studied Public Financial Management. He also attended the University of Manchester, Manchester Business School where he studied International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS).

In addition to his professional memberships, Ambassador Faruk Yabo MFR also attended short courses at different institutions around the world. These include: Chevro Institute of Politics, Prague, Czech Republic (Certificate in Municipality Management), University of Nicosia (Institute of Political Science), Cyprus, National Open University of Malaysia (Certificate in Economy & Local Government Management Systems & Administration), Royal University of Women, Bahrain (Certificate in Urban Planning & Municipality Management).

Professional Memberships

His professional memberships include; Fellow Certified National Accountant (FCNA), Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Chartered National Accountant (CNA), Fellow Chartered Institute of Economics of Nigeria, Associate Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria and Member Chartered Institute of Administration of Nigeria.[6]
