Alessandro Ciardi (born 7 January 2007) is an Italian professional Association football who plays as a midfielder for Austrian Football Bundesliga|Austrian Bundesliga club FC Red Bull Salzburg.

Club career

Born in Carate Brianza,[1] Ciardi started playing football by joining Inter Milan's Inter Milan Youth Sector|academy in 2012, aged 5.[2] He then progressed through the club's youth ranks, featuring for the under-16 and under-17 teams as an under-aged player.[1][2][3]

On 10 January 2023, Ciardi officially joined Austrian side FC Red Bull Salzburg|Red Bull Salzburg on a Free transfer (association football)|free transfer, signing a professional contract until June 2025 with the club.[4][5][6] The deal didn't include an official compensation for Inter Milan, due to an Italian law (abrogated since July 2023) that allowed youth players to accept offers from foreign clubs once they turned 16, as Athletic scholarship|athletic scholarships had not been implemented in Italy, yet.[3][7]

The midfielder was initially assigned to Salzburg's under-18 squad.[4][5]

International career

Ciardi has represented Italy at several youth international levels.

Having taken part in training camps under head coach Massimiliano Favo,[8][9] he went on to play for the Italy national under-15 football team|under-15 national team,[10] before progressing to the Italy national under-16 football team|under-16 national team.[11][12]

Style of play

Ciardi has been described as a complete midfielder, who mainly plays in an Attacking Midfielder|advanced role, but can also act as a mezzala or a deep-lying playmaker.[1] He has been regarded for his technical skills, especially in regards to his ball control and his first touch, as well as his finishing prowess, his creativity and his work rate.[1]
