Alexandre de Almeida Youssef (São Paulo, December 26, 1974), better known as Alê Youssef, is a Brazilian cultural manager, former São Paulo Municipal Secretary of Culture[1] and political activist. He is currently the cultural director of Complexo Cidade Matarazzo and a partner at the concert venue Studio SP, both in São Paulo.[2]

Biography

He is a lawyer graduated from Universidade Mackenzie de São Paulo and has a Master's degree in Political Philosophy from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro-UFRJ.

He was president of the João Mendes Júnior Academic Center, of the Mackenzie University Law School[3], between 1996 and 1997, when he held, among other events, the Festival Terra, bringing together in the auditorium Rui Barbosa, in that University, Sebastião Salgado and Chico Buarque. Between 1998 and 1999, he was special advisor to the Brazil's Minister of Justice José Carlos Dias[4].

Youssef was the São Paulo Youth Coordinator of the municipal administration of Marta Suplicy (Workers' Party (Brazil) and 2004, and was chief of staff of former councilor Soninha Francine, between 2005 and 2006[4].

Shortly after, he founded with other partners Studio SP, a concert venue considered one of those responsible for the resumption of the region known as Baixo Augusta, in the central region of São Paulo.

In 2009, he founded the Bloco Acadêmicos do Baixo Augusta, which became the biggest bloco of the São Paulo Street Brazilian Carnival[5].

He is one of the founders of Rede Sustentabilidade, alongside Marina Silva, and supported the election of Fernando Haddad to Mayor of São Paulo in 2012[5].

In January 2019, he was invited by the then mayor of São Paulo, Bruno Covas, to the position of Municipal Secretary of Culture[6], a position he held, in his first stint, until March 2020. In 2021, he returned to the Municipal Department of Culture, where he would remain until August of the same year, when he resigned due to ideological incompatibility with the then mayor Ricardo Nunes[7].

In November 2021, he resumed the activities of Studio SP, alongside Alê Natacci and Ronaldo Lemos[8]. In January 2022, he took over as cultural director of Complexo Cidade Matarazzo[2].

He was the presenter of the show Navegador, on GloboNews, with Ronaldo Lemos, Hermano Viana and José Marcelo Zacchi, he was a commentator on the show Esquenta, on TV Globo, and on the segment Mais São Paulo, on the CBN radio station. He is the author of the books “New Power – Democracy and Technology” and “Baixo Augusta – The city is ours!”.
