Akaash Singh (born May 4, 1984) is an Indian-American stand-up comedian, actor, and podcaster. He is best known for hosting the Flagrant 2 podcast with Andrew Schultz and his comedy special Bring Back Apu on Youtube.

Early life

Singh was born in Dallas, Texas to Indian Punjabi Hindu parents, and he grew up in suburban north Dallas.[1]. Additionally, he has an older brother[2]. From 2002 to 2006, Singh attended Austin College, where he graduated pre-med[3][4].

Career

Stand-up comedy

Singh began performing stand-up comedy his freshman in college as he performed at his first open mic in Denton, Texas. Because he had a year off to apply for medical schools after graduating from college, Singh decided to move to Los Angeles, California in September 2006 to pursue a career in stand-up comedy. He stayed in Los Angeles until he decided to move to New York City in June 2008, where he is still currently based out of[2][5][4].

In February 2022, Singh self-released his first comedy special, Bring Back Apu on Youtube[6][7].

Television, firm, and web series

Singh was featured in five episodes of the improv comedy show Wild 'n Out (2014-2015), moving to a creative consultant role in 2017[4]. Additionally, he appeared in smaller role in HBO The Leftovers (TV series) (2014) and was a cast member for the fifth season of MTV Guy Code (2015)[8]. In 2016, Singh appeared as Mookie in the Netflix series Brown Nation[9]

Podcasts

Singh co-hosted the podcast American Desis with Indian-American actor Arjun Gupta (actor) from 2015 to 2018, where they both share their experiences of being South Asian in the United States.[2]

Singh co-hosts the Flagrant 2 podcast with fellow comedian Andrew Schultz, with support form AlexxMedia and Mark Gagnon. Originally, starting as a sports podcast, the podcast in its current form has molding into talking about current events and Popular culture[7][6][10]. Currently, the podcast releases two episodes a week through public channels and an additional Patreon only episode for members they refer to as the "Asshole Army"[11]

Personal life

Singh is a Hindu who does not drink or do drugs.[1][6]

Singh married his longtime girlfriend Jasleen in 2021 after four years of dating and two years engaged.[1]

Being from Dallas, Singh is a Dallas Cowboys and Dallas Mavericks fan.[2][7]
