Faiz Ali Syed (Urdu فیض علی سید; born 12 December 1979), popularly known as Adv. Faiz Syed is an Islamic presenter, Muslim intellectual and educationist from Aurangabad district, Maharashtra. He is the founder of Islamic Research Centre Education & Welfare Trust (IRC), India and has delivered numerous talks on Islah in Urdu language across India and abroad.[1][2]He is currently a Shura Member of AIDCA[3]. He was appointed as a Director of iPlus TV[4] - a 24x7 Islamic Satellite television channel - from 2014 - 2018.

Early life and education

Faiz Ali Syed is born on 12 December 1979 to Azam Ali Syed and Aliya Fatima in Aurangabad, India. He did his primary and higher-primary education from Burhani National English High School, Aurangabad. Subsequently, Syed completed the Bachelor of Science from Maulana Azad College of Arts and Science in his native city. Later he joined Tom Patrick Institute of Computer and Information Technology and received Master of Computer Application. He pursued Bachelor of Laws from Dr. Ambedkar College of Law. He also pursued M.A. in Islamic studies from Maulana Azad National Urdu University.

Career

In 2001, Syed started working in the field of Dawah and founded IRC in Aurangabad, India.[5] Since then he has delivered numerous lectures in India and abroad. He is the President of Al Kitab Education & Welfare Society, and Director of Janseva Co-operative Credit Society Ltd, Aurangabad. He is also the Shura Member of All India Dawah Centres Association and Ex Managing Director of iPlus TV.

Social Works

Through IRC, Adv Faiz Syed is involved in various kinds of social activities in Aurangabad.

Charitable Hospitals and Pathology Lab

There are four charitable hospitals in slum areas of Aurangabad run by IRC under his leadership.[6] The treatment in all the hospitals are done with a very nominal consultation fee with free medication for the underprivileged people.[7] The pathology lab is operated by skilled and experienced technicians and pathologists nearly at 60% discount rate.[8][9]

Study Centre and Technical Institute

A full-fledge study center with law library in Aurangabad, completely free with fully air-conditioned and uninterrupted high-speed internet facility provided for educational purpose. It is opened for 18 hours for all seven days a week and have a capacity of 50 seats. The IRC Technical Institute provides various courses of Computer training, video recording & editing for the underprivileged students for free. Syed also organizes various skill developments programs, women empowerment programs[10] and career guidance programs.

Various Aids

Medical, educational, employment aid is provided for the weaker section of the society to support and improve the livelihood of the underprivileged.[11][12] Ration Kits and food distribution campaigns[13] are conducted on monthly basis and at the time of emergencies respectively apart from free water supply.

Controversy

Transgender and Intersex

One of his videos had sparked controversy about transgender and intersex community to be 'expelled from homes'.[14] However he has clarified about the answer he has given earlier and differed with the English translation of his video and said "they should not be treated badly, as they often are, but deserve equal rights."[15]

COVID-19

Even though Syed is found advising Muslims to maintain social distancing and avoid mass gathering,[16] on April 11, 2020, India TV aired a three-year-old video which was uploaded on the official Youtube channel of Adv. Faiz Syed claiming that Syed promoted spitting during COVID-19|COVID-19. Fact checking websites Alt News and The Cognate proved the news report of India TV to be false.[17] Subsequently India TV quietly deleted the video.[18] Later Syed filed a defamation case against India TV for falsely implicating him in the increase of COVID-19 cases.[19]
