Able Wanamakok (born August 25, 1980) is a Hong Kong native who spent her formative years in the United States and built her career in Thailand. She began her career in mass communications as a news presenter in 2006 and has since expanded her career as an actor, TV show host, emcee, voice-over artist, motivational speaker, and Presenter & Confidence Coach. She founded Find Your Voice Asia in 2017 and took on stages including TEDx and host events for well-known brand names such as Louis Vuitton, HP and DELL.[1]

As a well-known communications expert throughout Asia, Able's past roles include news presenting for PGTV, Andaman News at NBT Phuket, guest hosting for the Thaiger, and hosted various lifestyle TV programs, such as Thailand@Large, Window on Thailand, Thaiger News, and Apple Daily.[2]

As a motivational speaker, she speaks regularly to international companies around the world but enjoys speaking and training most at schools and universities.[3]

Able's impact on her profession and community is significant, having been a member of the Forbes Coaches Council since 2022 and a TEDx speaker. She was named a Paul Harris Fellow for her community work and received the "Asia Women Leader 2019" award from CMO Global as a Woman Entrepreneur. Her contributions have also been recognized in publications like Thailand Tatler and Harper's Bazaar Thailand.[4]

Early life and education

Able was born in Hong Kong, the daughter of Kam Fok and Kannie Fok. In 1991, her family moved to the United States, where she attended Glendale Feilbach (1991–1993), Waterville Middle School (1993–1994), and Wauseon Middle School (1994–1995) before graduating from Wauseon High School in 1999.

Following in her father's footsteps, who was a head chef at Holiday Inn Golden Mile and won several top awards for his culinary achievements, Able started her career in hospitality. She later pursued her studies and earned a bachelor's degree in business from Bowling Green State University in 2003.

During her time at the university, she was selected for a full scholarship under the Asian Studies student exchange program to study at Hiroshima Jogakuin University in Japan from 2001 to 2002. Additionally, she completed an online course in hospitality management from Harvard Business School in 2003.

Career

At the young age of 13, Able began honing her skills as an International Performer and Speaker while working at her parents' restaurant. She gained experience and developed her interpersonal, communication, and social skills by taking on various positions in a restaurant setting.[5]

Upon completing her degree, Able began her professional journey in the hospitality industry as a corporate management trainee at the Hyatt Regency Columbus. She quickly rose through the ranks and was promoted to Assistant Food and Beverage Manager within just four months of being in the program. After a year in the position, she relocated to Phuket, Thailand, with her husband in 2005.[6]

It was in Thailand that Able's career in mass communications and performing arts began to take off. She was discovered by a casting director while her news program was airing in a hotel lobby and was invited to audition for a role in The Marine 2. She secured the role of news presenter and sales at the Phuket Gazette, where she worked for 4.5 years. Her work in the limelight opened doors for her to work as a master of ceremonies, or MC, hosting live events, conferences, and international shows, and providing voice-over work for numerous local and international companies.[7]

In 2010, Able founded AWPR & Marketing, a PR and marketing company that focused on providing social media marketing and public relations services in Phuket, Thailand.[8]

In 2011, she started reading live news at National Broadcasting Thailand. During her four-year-plus career at NBT, in addition to being a news anchor, Able also hosted the travel shows Thailand@Large and Window on Thailand.[9]

With nearly 20 years of experience in mass communications, Able has hosted various events such as travel shows, galas, award dinners, openings, parties, conferences, diplomatic and state dinners, unions, and more. She has worked alongside well-known celebrities such as Jennifer Kim, Kimmy Anne Woltemas, Page Kennedy, Wu Jing, Two Popetom, and Jason Statham.[10]

In 2017, Able led the founding of Find Your Voice Asia, which aims to provide guidance for improving confidence and presentation skills. Her aim is to guide individuals to communicate honestly and openly from their hearts towards self-awareness. Her clients include other coaches, students, pageants, executives, and anyone who wishes to become the best version of themselves.[11]

Furthermore, she released her first book, Step-by-Step Guide to Becoming a Great Presenter, in July 2020, which serves as a practical guide for those who aim to improve their communication and confidence skills geared towards helping digital marketers, social media influencers, and content creators.

Able was discovered and entered into the world of acting with her debut in the industry in 2008, playing a small role in the movie Marine 2, starring Ted Dibiase. Her other acting projects include Aleta Vampire and The MEG 2: The Trench.
