Balogun Abayomi Joseph (born october 16, 1989), professionally known as Abjay Manana and A.B.J Manana is a Nigerian Mexican rapper, singer and songwriter. He predominantly sings Reggaeton, which has its origin from Puerto Rico and Colombia. His skills span multiple genres from hip hop to afrobeats, rap music and trap. Abjay Manana has recordings in 3 languages including Spanish, English and Yoruba[1].
Abjay Manana got early fame as a Nigerian reggaeton singer with his singles Morire Por Ti (I'll die for you) and Enforca. With many views on his social handles, Manana is the new face of the Nigerian music industry[2].
Early life and education
Balogun Abayomi Joseph, better known as Abjay Manana was born in the state of Ikeja, Lagos. He is the son of Mr Johnson Balogun and Mrs Mary Omoyiwola Balogun[3]. He holds an associate degree in medical laboratory science and is a Kyiv Medical University drop out, where he was studying medicine[4].
Career
Abjay Manana started his musical career in 2020, during the Covid 19 lockdown[5]. He released his first single Morire Por Ti (I'll die for you) in 2020. Within a short span of time the song became a big hit in the state of Queretaro, Mexico. He released his second song Enforca, in September 2021. This was a track where the lyrics focused on advising young generations against drug abuse and gang violence. Airing across all the radio stations in Mexico, the song received mixed reactions from audiences[6].
Manana’s singing style is unique and different from other artists in the industry and is believed to lead the Nigerian music industry in the upcoming years[7]. His compositions are more likely to be famous in Nigerian and Latin American countries[8].
