Abhijeet Sukhdane
Abhijeet Sukhdane is a well known Dhrupad vocalist, from the Dagarvani school of thoughts or the Dagar Gharana, and is one of the students of legendary Dhrupad Maestro Ustad Zia Fariduddin Dagar.
Early Life and Training
Born on 7 Jan 1977 in Gwalior (M.P.) to a middle class family, he was always inspired by his family to learn music. His real inspiration came within him when he listened to the recital of Ustad Zia Fariduddin Dagar in Tansen Samaroh in the year 1993, who was also entitled with the Tansen Samman the same year. He then started learning from his Ustad and learned the genre till his demise in the year 2013.
Contributions
Abhijeet Sukhdane is known not only for his musical skills, but also as one of the flag - bearers in giving training to the young generation. He is also known for his contributions to the Dhrupad art by establishing the Dhrupad Kendra in Gwalior in the year 2010 and revived the Dhrupad art form in Gwalior after 500 years (from the period of Raja Mansingh Tomar). He is also the first Dhrupadiya or Dhrupad vocalist from Gwalior after Raja Mansingh's time. Not only the Kendra in Gwalior, a centre in Behat (Birthplace of Tansen) also came under his directorship in the year 2019. He has trained a number of students who are now actively performing on various renowned stages. Two of his students from the first batch of Dhrupad Kendra Gwalior, Anuj Pratap Singh and Yakhlesh Baghel, who are also known for their musical abilities, are presently assisting him in the Behat and Gwalior Dhrupad Kendra respectively.
Awards and Recognitions
He recently got the "Champions of Change (award)" for Madhya Pradesh for the year 2021 for his immense efforts for the survival of the Dhrupad art form.
