Early life and education

Şahin Uçar was born in Sivas, Turkey. He pursued his higher education in history at the University of Istanbul, where his academic journey in the humanities began.[2]

Academic career

Uçar's academic career has been in the philosophy of history. He has served as a lecturer at universities in Turkey and abroad, traching history and its philosophical aspects. Uçar's approach to history is holistic, advocating for an understanding of history "in toto"—as a comprehensive narrative encompassing all past events.[3]

Contributions to arts and literature

During his student years, Uçar engaged with traditional Ottoman arts. He studied calligraphy, classical Ottoman music, and ornamental designs, training under Süheyl Ünver, Kemal Batanay, Hamid Aytaç, and Münir Nureddin Selçuk. This period influenced his artistic output.[4]

Uçar also writes poetry, both traditional Ottoman style and modern forms. He has authored a "Divan" in traditional Ottoman style—a collection of poems written in an archaic language and composed using the "Aruz" rhythmic patterns. Uçar is the only contemporary poet to have composed a complete Divan in this classical form.[5]

Languages and multidisciplinary traits

In addition to his native Turkish, Uçar is proficient in several dialects of the Turkish language and has a command of English, Persian, Arabic, and has some knowledge of Russian and Latin. His linguistic abilities reflect in his multidisciplinary works, which encompass a range of cultural and historical contexts.[6]
