Zyáir Ayanna Clark (born June 12, 2001), known mononymously as Zyáir, is an African-American singer, songwriter, and model from Detroit, Michigan. Zyáir is an independent artist known for her smash EPs "Tell Me You Love Me" and "Letters From A Bad Lover".

Early Life and Education

Born in Kansas City, Kansas, Zyáir was raised by her single mother in Pontiac, Michigan. She attended Avondale High School and later Dakota High School where she moved away from home and in with a friend to attend. She later attended Michigan State University where she completed her BA in Political Science as a first-generation college student. Ayanna was also a varsity student-athlete at Michigan State as a member of the Women's Crew Team following her time on the MSU All-Girl Cheerleading & STUNT Team. Her mother, having previously worked in the music industry throughout her late teens, made reading and writing an integral part to her own daughter's life. By the age of 5, Zyáir was said to have a 132 IQ, reading full length novels, creating short stories, and writing her own songs in which she would perform for her family at gatherings. Zyáir lived with her grandparents for the majority of her childhood in which she described the experience; "I never knew we didn't have money. That's how I know they did a great job. They never let me go without." Throughout her childhood, Ayanna's mother would lug her from audition to audition with little to no money, hoping her child would catch a break. "I love my mom. Career

Zyáir released her first single "Treat Me Right" during the COVID-19 Pandemic after push from her friends. She posted her first singing cover to "Stay" by Rihanna, which amassed over 100,000 views within its first month posted. Zyáir flew out to Los Angeles, California for the first time in 2021, couch surfing. Throughout this time she became acquainted within the industry, teaming up with various producers, songwriters, and other artists, leading to her second single "Look What You Did" which saw little streaming success but put her on the map to labels.

2022: "Tell Me You Love Me" & "Letters From A Bad Lover" Tell Me You Love Me/Letters From A Bad Lover Zyáir released a double EP on May 13, 2022 which earned her her first 1 million streams with the song "Attention" and again with the song "Bad At Lovers". She would fly back and forth from Lansing to LA to "record, network, and learn from industry peers."

2023--Present Zyáir moved to Los Angeles, California post-graduation in hopes to jumpstart her music career. She walked around from place to place to get her music heard, eventually locking in a sponsorship with a coffee company and a manager to help fund her first studio album and its marketing.

She recorded her full project at Green Tea Recording Studios and while the dates are still TBA, it has been revealed it is a 13 track album set to release sometime in 2024.

Influences and Musical Style

Growing up with her grandparents, Zyáir listened to old-school r&b and soul. She has always made it a big deal to expose herself to as many genres as she could. She became fond of indie, alternative, neo-soul, and jazz music. She has said to draw inspiration from a diverse range of artists, including Aaliyah, Erykah Badu, Rihanna, Ne-Yo, Alicia Keys, Drake, Mary J. Blige, Akon, and Frank Ocean. However, she aspires to create her own unique lane in the music industry. Her music being described as "ethereal" and genre-crossing. She has been described by Radiohaus as having a "signature, nostalgic sound — melodies that stick in your head and a pure, light tone that transcends beyond this realm".

Musical Achievements

Zyáir released her debut single "Treat Me Right" in 2020, followed by her second single "Look What You Did." In 2022, she unveiled a double EP titled "Tell Me You Love Me" & "Letters From A Bad Lover," earning her her first one million streams. Anticipated by her growing fanbase, her first studio album, "Songbird," is slated for release in 2024.

Affectionately dubbed the "Princess of Detroit," she has also been acknowledged by LA Weekly as a rising star. Her unique features and the development of a groundbreaking musical genre further solidify her status as an influential and innovative force in the industry.

Personal Life

Zyáir is a dog mom to an 11-year-old Shih-Tzu named Milo that she adopted in 2022 at the age of 10 after he was thrown out of a vehicle on the highway. He has his own Instagram page. Post-graduation, Zyáir has worked as both a high school math teacher and a substitute teacher, using the majority of her funds to finance her first studio album. She is an active partner with vote.org to increase voter registration & awareness at the ballots. Zyáir was a contestant in Miss Michigan USA 2022 as Miss East Lansing USA. The singer is partnered with Bubble Skincare and Denim & Hyde Fashion. Zyáir Ayanna was a former member of the Jazz band The Dominoes.
