Zurab Alkhanishvili (Georgian: ზურაბ ალხანიშვილი; born March 4, 1987) is a Georgian public health specialist, medical educator, and science communicator.[1] He is known for his work in developing national health policies and public awareness campaigns, particularly in the fields of infection control and risk communication.[2] Alkhanishvili has collaborated on projects supported by international organizations, including the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).[3]

Education

Zurab Alkhanishvili was born in Telavi, Georgia. He holds master's degrees in dentistry from Grigol Robakidze University, in health promotion from Tbilisi State Medical University, and in healthcare management from Ilia State University. As of 2025, he is a doctoral student in the Clinical and Translational Medicine program at Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University.[1]

Career

Alkhanishvili has worked in both non-governmental and academic sectors. He serves as a public health program coordinator at the United Nations Association of Georgia.[3] He is the president of the Georgian Association for Public Health and Well-being, an organization he co-founded to bridge the gap between scientific communities and the general public through health education.[2] He is also the vice-president of the Georgian Dental Association.[4]

He was a member of the expert group that contributed to the development of Georgia's national risk-communication strategy for public health emergencies, a project supported by the UNDP and implemented in partnership with the National Center for Disease Control and Public Health (NCDC).[3] Following the launch of Georgia's hepatitis C elimination program, he was involved in creating updated guidelines on infection prevention and control for dental clinics.[2]

As an expert and author, Alkhanishvili has contributed articles on public health topics to national platforms such as Civil Georgia.[5] He is also the host of the health and science podcast Healthy Dialogue.[2]
