Ziyad Qasim, (1945 – 3 August 2007) is an author and a scholar from the Jordanian capital, Amman.[1][2][3] He often calls himself “Alomane”. He wrote many novels that received major popularity in Jordan.

His life and education

Ziyad Qasim was born in 1945 in the Jordanian capital Amman. He enrolled in the University of Jordan in 1965, and graduated from it with a bachelor's degree in accounting in 1969. He later on graduated from the University of Brighton in England with a master's degree in accounting in 1983. He worked as an accountant in the field of insurance and navigation until 1978, and an operation manger in marine navigation until 1983, and an Egyptian accounting and marketing coach in the Jordanian Institute of Public Administration up until 1995. He retired in 1995.

His works

Ziyad wrote multiple novels, some of which are “Abnāʼ al-qalʻaẗ”, “Al-zawbaʿaẗ min sittat ajzāʼ”, “al-ʻarīn”, “Al-Hā̲sirūn”, and so many others. He wrote the history of Amman during its different stages in his novels. He also has written some short stories. He turned a number of his novels into dramatic radio which was aired on Radio Jordan.

His Death

In June 2007, he had a stroke and was admitted in King Hussein Medical Center where he passed away on a Friday night on August 3, 2007. The Jordan Writers Association mentioned the novelist Ziyad Qasim in a statement issued in the name of its storyteller president Saud Qubeilat and its administrative and public bodies: “the association mourns Ziyad Qasim to remember a great author and scholar, with a magnificent political history. He documented Amman as well as the general Jordanian area. He produced amazing works that touched the spirit of history and humans transparency in a unique way”.
