Zakkariya Kurudamparambil Abdul Kader (Born on 29-05-1971) is a popular academician in the domain of Organizational Behavior and Marketing, based in Cochin University of Science and Technology[1][2][3] , Kochi, Kerala, India. He has been actively contributing to academia in different capacities for the past 23 years. Dr. Zakkariya is best known for his leadership and institution-building skills. He is the founder of DDU KAUSHAL Kendra (a specialized center for Vocational Studies) in CUSAT[4][5] and was instrumental in starting the vocational courses at Masters Level for the first time in a university in the country. He is the founder Director of the Centre for Employee Empowerment and Skills Acquisition (CEESA) in CUSAT. CEESA is a center for providing training and orientation to teaching and non-teaching staff for their skills upgradation. Besides these, he had been nominated to the Syndicate of Cochin University thrice by the Government of Kerala[6],[7] he was the youngest ever member nominated to the syndicate, when he was nominated first time in 2003. He has also been elected five times consecutively to the senate of the University by the teachers.[8][9] It is because of his initiatives and efforts CUSAT became part of a one million Euro European Union Project for Capacity Building in Higher Education in the year 2019. It is a prestigious project with 12 partner institutions from six countries and his efforts to establish a Centre for Teaching Excellence in CUSAT as part of the project are in progress.[10] He has occupied several positions such as Director, AMU Malappuram Campus|Aligarh Muslim University Centre at Malappuram, Governing Council Member of Kerala State Higher Education Council, Executive Council Member of Aligarh Muslim University|Aligarh Muslim University UP, General Council Member of Kerala Agricultural University, Director, Students’ Welfare Department CUSAT, Chairman and Secretary of Indian Society for Training and Development (ISTD) Kochi Chapter[11], President and General Secretary of Cochin University Teachers’ Organization and Secretary and Correspondent of MES college Marampally. He has been a member of the academic bodies of various universities inside and outside the state of Kerala.[12][13][14] He held the chairmanship of three different Boards of Studies simultaneously in CUSAT. He has been selected for the Best member Award of the Indian Society for Training and Development (ISTD) for the year 2019-20. He has been serving in the managing committee or advisory committee of many educational institutions in Kerala.[15]

Research

Dr. Zakkariya is an active researcher in the areas of Organizational Behavior, Human Resource Management and Consumer Behavior. His research publications have appeared in many indexed and reputed international journals such as International Journal of Educational Management[16], Journal of Management Development[17], Journal of Asia Business Studies[18], Development and Learning in Organizations[19], Journal of Applied Research in Higher Education[20] and International Journal of Intelligent Enterprise. Moreover, Dr. Zakkariya has published a textbook with Springer Publishing|Springer, titled "Psychological Empowerment and Job Satisfaction in the Banking Sector" along with his collegue Dr. Elizabeth George.[21] He has produced ten Ph.Ds in the areas of Marketing and Human Resource Management so far. Moreover, he is a reviewer of half a dozen leading international research journals. He has organized a large number of national and international conferences, workshops and Faculty Development Programs.

Education

Dr. Zakkariya is a graduate in psychology from the Union Christian College, Aluva and has acquired his masters in Psychology from University of Calicut with second rank. Subsequently he took his Master’s degrees in Business Administration (M.B.A.) and Human Resource Management (MHRM) from University of Calicut and University of Kerala respectively. He has taken his Doctorate from Cochin University of Science and Technology.

Early Life

Prof. Zakkariya was born in an ordinary family at Edavanakad village in Vypin Island, Kochi, on 29th May 1971. He was the second son of Kurudamparambil Abdulkader, who was an employee of Hindustan Machine Tools|Hindustan Machine Tools (HMT). Zakkariya had his early schoolings in local government primary schools in Aluva. He has shown exemplary leadership qualities from his school days and became an elected School Leader at K.P.M. High School Edavanakad for the year 1985-86. He had participated in the Mass Literacy programme in Edavanakad panchayath as Master Trainer and Ward Convenor and was also the secretary of a local public library (Iqbal Smaraka Vayanashala) during its golden jubilee year.
