Zach Kasik is an American Producer, Audio Engineer, Songwriter, and Professional Touring Musician. His eclectic discography[1][2] includes Jamey Johnson, Old Crow Medicine Show, Beck, Michael Jackson, Burning Brides, Too Slim and the Taildraggers and many more.
Personal Life
On August 16, 1984, Zach was born in Norfolk, Nebraska, and grew up in Yankton, South Dakota[3]. He was raised on Southern Rock, Outlaw Country, Blues, and Soul. By eleven years old, Zach, and older Brother Kenny Kasik, had already begun to make a name for themselves around the mid-west club scene with their Southern Rock Band, The Lugnuts.[4] Zach moved to Phoenix, AZ, in 2002 and earned a degree in Audio Engineering from The Conservatory of Recording Arts and Sciences. In 2003, he moved to Los Angeles, where after a two-week internship at Oceanway Recording in Hollywood, Zach was hired full time. He then spent the next four years working on sessions with everyone from Paul McCartney to The Rolling Stones to Dr. Dre. After that, he spent six more years freelancing and working with some of the biggest names in the business. In 2013 he relocated to Nashville, Tennessee, and opened a studio on a ranch just outside of the city. On January 1, 2019, after networking for several years and recording some of Nashville's finest, Zach moved a few miles down the road and opened his studio, Wild Feather Recording.
Career
Over the past 20 years, Zach Kasik has worked with various people and genres throughout the music industry. At the age of 11, he found a passion for audio engineering after a recording session at the local community college. After completing his internship at Ocean Way Recording, he was hired full-time. He started out working the night shift with Dr. Dre at Oceanway's sister studio, Record One. After proving himself on the night shift at Record one, he moved to Oceanway's main studio and spent the next three years working with and learning from some of the biggest names in the business. It was here that Zach worked with Oceanway's high-profile clientele, such as bands and artists from Green Day to Paul McCartney and The Rolling Stones. In addition, Zach was blessed to work with some of the most talented engineers and producers who mentored him early in his career. Some of the most notable are:
Al Sutton, Andy Johns, Darrell Thorp, Dave Cobb, Doug McKeen, Dr. Dre, George Drakulious, Jack Joseph Puig, Jeffrey Cain, Joe Chiccarelli, Joey Waronker, Nick Raskulinecz, Nigel Godrich, Rob Cavallo, Ross Robinson, Theron Feemster.
These experiences got him engrained in the recording industry and shaped him into the engineer, mixer, and producer he is today.
In 2013, Zach decided to move to Nashville to bring his skills and expertise to this ever-growing city. He started his Tennessee life by working with Shannon Lawson building a studio on a ranch outside of town. Through these sessions' connections, he got a slot playing bass on tour with Too Slim and The Taildraggers[5]. So not only is he a Platinum recording engineer, but he is also a musician himself. Zach plays a combination of different instruments such as banjo, guitar, bass, and he even sings. Moreover, he also song writes as well.
Zach Kasik has also been linked to other projects such as movies and audio books. In 2008, he worked on two movies, Repo! the Genetic Opera[6] and Autopsy. It was here that he engineered and played on part of the sound track. Then in 2010, he engineered the soundtrack for the movie The Devil's Carnival. As for audio books he has worked on two of Ann O'Brien's[7] and one of those is an Amazon #1 best seller.
