zGlue is a fabless semiconductor company that integrates various chiplets on its proprietary smart silicon interposers to develop custom silicon chips.

zGlue is the first company to launch an online library of chiplets with detailed design data, design tool, and manufacturing support for applications from embedded devices to high performance computing.

History

zGlue was founded in 2014 by Jawad Nasrallah and Ming Zhang, two semiconductor veterans with past working experience at Intel and Samsung Electronics. The two co-founders recognised the slowdown of Moore's law and hypothesized that the future of semiconductors would be a module chiplet-based design. They also believed that a quicker and simpler chip design process would better enable chips to serve the large Internet-of-Things market, allowing those who do not have an engineering background[1] to use custom modules. They also observed that multi-chip modules and custom-design chip stacking were still very costly and time-consuming to productize.

In 2015, zGlue won the Startup of the Year at Venture Capital Investment Competition (VCIC) and was admitted to StartX accelerator. zGlue also received SBIR grant from National Science Foundation (NSF) at the end of 2015 to build their very early chiplet stacking technology, with support from ASE Group for fabrication of the prototypes and initial testing.[2]

In 2016, zGlue produced its first fully functional active silicon interposer.[2]

In 2018, zGlue released a flagship product, zOrigin, a small, ready-to-use fitness tracking fob that measures heart rate, temperature, and footsteps.[3][4] zGlue also launched its next-gen reference chip design called OmniChip that serves a variety of applications. The company was named as “10 IoT Companies to Watch in 2018” by EE Times.[5]

In 2019, zGlue first launched its ChipBuilder, a cloud-based design software for engineers to design its custom IC chips.[6] zGlue also released industry's first ChipletStore, an online portal comprising of chiplet listing and browsing portals integrated with the development software, zGlue ChipBuilder™.

Awards

The company was awarded as the winner of the ‘Startup of the Year’ by 3DInCites.[7]
